Majestic Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 Some of the greatest performances by an Indian player have come against Australia. Here we try to compile an all time India XI for a tour to Australia:- Gavaskar Sehwag Pujara Tendulkar kohli Laxman Pant(wkt) Kapil Kumble Shami Bumrah https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=1;home_or_away=2;opposition=2;spanmin1=01+Jan+1970;spanval1=span;team=6;template=results;type=batting https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=1;home_or_away=2;opposition=2;spanmin1=01+Jan+1970;spanval1=span;team=6;template=results;type=bowling raki05 1

Lord Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 Would add one more bowler/AR. Kapil at 7 is fine Either Bedi or Jadeja

Can’t really drop Laxman irrespective of stats. Just too good a player vs Aussies anywhere in the world. But I think Siraj and Jadeja needs a few more sample games and then they make a very strong case. Siraj and Pant were the big reasons for the turnaround in last tour as they came into the side from 2nd test onwards and we won 2 of those 3 tests and lost none.

Siraj is too small a sample size, because if just that one tour is considered then even Sundar and Thakur will come into picture... Pant - there is no doubt about any WK bat doing better in Australia that we he did... Sgattick10 1
zen Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 Vinoo Mankad has 2 100s in Aus (and one in Eng).

Number Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 Looks perfect. A bit unfortunate that Dravid will miss out because of his average there. We won 2 tests in 2000s against ATG Ausssie side there and in both of them he played the biggest role.

We've only 4 bowling options and batting till 8. Need to drop one of Kohli or Laxman to add another bowler. Somebody like prime Irfan Pathan who helped us win the match at WACA who could bat as well. Or one of Srinath or Zaheer. I would go with Laxman as Aussies were his favorite opponents and the 2004-2007 version of Irfan Pathan who was handy with the ball and bat. Also, I would go with Jadeja ahead of Kumble. Kumble never really did much against Aus so may as well go with peak Jadeja who could keep things tight and also score runs. My team... Sehwag Gavaskar (c) Pujara (Dravid as backup) Tendulkar Pant (wk) Laxman (Kohli as the backup) Kapil (vc) Irfan Pathan Jadeja Shami Bumrah Others in the squad: Dravid (top order backup) Kohli (middle order backup) Ashwin (for added spin for Sydney) Kumble Dhoni (backup wk) Zaheer (backup pacer) Srinath (backup pacer) Ishant Sharma (if you need a tall "hit the deck" pacer) Lord 1

We play 4 pacers in most SENA tests. In Australia, Siraj is a distant 4th choice after Bumrah, Kapil, Shami. Would have loved to pick Srinath but he has a very high bowling average in Australia. But, on 2nd thoughts, would still pick him in place of Siraj as he will perform much better bowling with Bumrah and Shami. Laxman can replace only Pujara in my team. But a solid No.3 is needed in Australia. Edited November 21, 2024 by express bowling Mosher and Forever Indian 2

Chandra/Bedi (both picked about 5-6 wkts per match in Aus!)
