To do the role as the third seamer in the side, the key requirement is to be able to bowl long spells with control. Anything he can offer as pace is something all Aussie batsmen would have seen and negotiated comfortably before. He is already faster than all the Aussie bowlers playing but would do well to take a leaf out of Cummins' book in the second innings at Adelaide. He showed how to bowl hostile spells at 135-140Ks. That is much more useful than a wild 150K merchant who cannot deliver long spells. Should leave the pace obsession to the Pakistanis

OT - I wonder if Aus will bring back Hazelwood for Boland. I don't think they will even if Haze is fit. Haze is a bit too similar to Cummins. Boland gives them variety.

Dropping Rana will be inevitable seeing how be batted and bowled. Also, Ashwin is seen in the pavillion half the time. God knows why, but he should be dropped if he is not fit. Akashdeep will play, want Prasidh to replace Siraj, but will not happen. DSP is a shoo-in after the heroic ghazi body language displayed. No matter what ICF complains, RoKo will headline , g-maare fans ki... Washy/Jadeja to replace Ashwin. What do we fo with a problem like Gill? Cutesy's 20-30 will not cut it in the top order. We can't afford both Gill and Kohli. Tempted to go back to Jurel in the MO:

Jaiswal

Rohit

KL

Kohli

Pant

Jurel/Gill

NKR

Jadeja/Wash

Bumrah

Akashdeep

Siraj/Prasidh

Hazelwood is their first choice pick and will play if he is fit. Boland is only used if one of the main bowlers is unavailable.

Gill played very well in the one match he has played and one of his dismissals was to an unplayable delivery. Otherwise he was the top order batsman who looked the most comfortable

Jurel has also played one game in this series and didn't really make a strong case to force his way into the side.

There is no way there is a choice between Gill and Jurel. If Jurel has to come in it will be to replace some other batsman. Rohit and Kohli are the only remaining options and unfortunately those changes will never be made.

If Rohit goes to open, one of KL or Gill has to bat down. Hence, my thought of either Gill or Jurel in the MO because ATG Kohli will not bat down the order  and KL in recent NZ series was disastrous in the MO

Indian innings are generally finishing so quickly that it doesn't matter who bats where. They all end up batting within the first 20 overs ( apart from the second innings in Perth). The problem is the batting, not the batting order.

Gill has looked much better than Jurel based on the 1 match viewing for each this series so dropping him to bring Jurel would make no sense.

Agree, needed a Pujara type in the top for Australia just to bat more overs. India batting has been like this for quite some time . Every batsman not named RoKo is getting great starts and then give away the wicket. Rohit wo bhi nahi karra.

Siraj has done a pretty good job and he needs to play. He is the 4th highest wicket taker in the series to date and has 9 wickets@19.7 which is a better average than Cummins and Starc who Australia won't even think about resting. Siraj is younger than them, has bowled fewer overs than them and the matches have been finishing early so he should easily be able to cope with the physical demands.

Plus, he's playing a bit angry now, and so there will be no lethargy.

Reddy shouldn't play as the fourth pacer...we need a genuine wicket taker instead of someone who can tonk it got useless 40-50 runs

Reddy has actually bowled pretty well and has picked up wickets in the 2-3 over spells he has been given. There is no reason he couldn't have been used more to get some control  when Harshit was getting belted all around

This is Gille batting ..he has 3 centuries and a 90 and a half century..you have a recency bias..his record is quite good..he looks good..and it seems he throws it away but that's ok

India plays best when they are riled up..we need the aussie media and fans to lay a siege on our team..the Australian team is smart and are very cleverly avoiding confrontation...we need virat to be bounced and hit and sledged. That's when we see him at his best .same goes for our bowlers

Not recency, but plain old bias. I don’t like his lazy elegance that shows up in most dismissals. Works in flat pitches, but he always comes short in sportive pitches. Supposedly spin expert, maybe fits MO than TO

I agree with the lazy side of things...but given most pitches that India plays has been tough..I don't think he is only good on flat pitches..I think he has weaknesses and doesn't make full use of the form that he is in but 3 ventures and two 90s ..he seems to be the next best bat after Jaiswal and maybe Pant

Really hope Rohit gets to open, don't want anyone to give excuse oh he didn't do well because he was playing at #6. We aren't winning this series, might as well hope that these 2 fake stars can get a boot after this series and we start fresh from next cycle.
