Congrats Gukesh.  My wife regrets now that he had talked to him. I was talkig to Gukesh while waiting to pick up my wife. She thought he was my colleague and asked me to hurry lol Now she regrets not talking to him.

Aronian and Caruana are genuinely nice guys, always supported these two. Even Carlsen is pretty good, he has that Scandinavian bluntness about him but he isn't like these jealous losers.

From what i have seen they are all nice guys. Having spent time with all these guys for 5 hours straight within 3 feet. ANish Giri was the only vocal guy in that group. Everyone else was quiet and modest. Magnus definitely enjoyed his celebriity status more compared to others. He acted like  a top dog for sure. Anand was the humblest of all the guys. Did tlak to him in Tamil.

Unpopular opinion but I agree. He has declined in classical and rating will soon show. Plays too less for it to be reflected. Same with Anand who is in top 10 but if he plays more often, won't be in top 20 !!!!

 

Now that Gukesh is world champ, want Caruana to be classical world number one at least once.

Don't agree.  Other than 1962, there has not been any humiliation. And 1962 also was because of that B@td Nehru's cowardice.

 

1967, 1987. Also Doklam we pushed them back and Ladakh too they had to back off.

 

We have been a one nation sport. We spend less than 2 % of what China spends in sports. 

 

Every nation goes through a journey.  

 

Remember there was a time where Japanese electronics and cars were the gold standard. While they still quite good.

 

Korean giants Samsung and LG now have run over anything Japan has in electronics and Korea makes better cars ( just take a look at Genesis series ) 

 

India's time too will come.

 

Most of the success in men's chess is coming from Tamil Nadu a single state.  Just look at the number of GMs from tamil nadu.

 

The century and millennium  is India's so long as we can manage the radical muslim population in India.

Pragg has not shown ruthless winning instinct to go on a hot winning streak. Even Arjun has it.

 

I agree Pragg is supremely talented. Hope he rises too and qualifies for the candidates somehow.

@Gollum as someone who has never followed chess, is classical chess tougher than blitz? Or both are uniquely challenging?

Pragg just looks physically weak and as you said, not enough fighting spirit. Arjun is the polar opposite, he is like young Nadal. Gukesh of course the most clutch like Nole. 

 

Hope Pragg turns it around, still only 19. With his talent and quality of his peers, his humble nature, I see him making big strides in his 20s.

Nehru was a cancer to India. All he did was set us back by 30 years. All his policies & politics were foreign pleasing and put India's interests last. His Non-aligned Movement looked good theoretically but put India in a corner. We didn't make any allies and eventually had to side with Russia. 1962 was a direct result of Nehru's idiotic policies. If we had picked a side and thought about our best interest instead of pleasing others and thinking what would "look good", we wouldn't have faced the 1962 situation and would've made progress much sooner.

Blitz is nonsense IMO. 2,3,4,5 minutes shouldn't be used to decide a game. Never liked this format. 

 

However you can apply the T20 analogy since we have an even more stupid format called bullet (played online only) which is one minute per side, that is like Hong Kong Sixes. 

 

Rapid is like ODI, often the most interesting format if you have 25+5 like control. More serious format than blitz, and more result oriented than classical. 

 

Classical is like test cricket, good old grind for several hours, highest quality of play (creativity, defense...). But prone to high % of draws because both sides play at high accuracy rate. 

 

Classical is toughest. Blitz relies on swindles, time pressure blunders, cheap tricks etc. While you have to earn your wins and draws in classical. Plenty of good classical players who adapted well in shorter time controls (eg. Caruana). But can't remember blitz only specialists doing anything special in classical, guys like Georg Meier and Andrew Tang.
