3 Spinners for next home test season vs WI & SA

With Ashwin having retired, the 3 main spinners for Tests now are:

 

R Jadeja

Sundar

Kuldeep Yadav

 

Who are the potential spinners outside these names that should be looked at.

Axar Patel, Sai Kishore and Washington Sundar.

 

Jadeja is done and Kuldeep has a tendency to crumble when attacked. Also, we need runs from our lower order and it's time we start picking multi-dimensional players.

Axar is not a Test spinner. More of a batsman.

 

Jadeja took a 10fer in Mumbai so some juice left there as long as hes fit. Ideally should leave ODIs

 

Kuldeep too is good, did very well v England

 

Sundar,Kuldeep,Sai Kishore are our next spinners. 

 

Not worried about our spinners at home as long they have runs to defend. Won't do rescue jobs like Ashwin-Jaddu probably so batting has to step up.

Sundar will be my fromtrunner..though he has shown better fitness and remained injiury free..therevare still chances of some injury may happen..

That will be trouble for us..

We will need to groom one more spinner outsde of Sundar,Axar and Kuldeep..

Tanush Kotian has flown to Australia as a replacement for Ashwin.

Another offie who is a decent bat, though not as good as Washy.

There is very little chance of Rohit playing a newbie like Kotian in a critical test.

Axar is great at home and especially on pitches which helps spinners. He can play a very similar role to what Jadeja did though I rate Sai Kishore higher in terms of bowling but will need to improve his batting as he comes along. For me Sai Kishore and Sundar would be the top 2 spinners and Axar comes in when the pitch is tailor made for spinners.

 

Kuldeep for better pitches but playing him means we go back to a longish tail. Still not sold on his use and can be a fringe spinner but I would have others, especially Sundar and Sai Kishore in my plans ahead of him. For shorter formats I prefer Varun C over him as a specialist spinner and supported by other multi-dimensional players such as Axar, Parag, Rinku, Abhishek etc.

no Axar has not well at even home with the ball. He was more of a batsman who could bowl. Jadeja has been much better.

 

Sai Kishore and Kuldeep are better spinners. Both can bat but obviously not at level of Ash and Jadeja. But there batting needs to contribute. Spinners cant be doing everything. Sundar is the only balanced AR we have now.

 

Kuldeep being a wrist spinner will work overseas too. He already has a 5fer in Aus.

After having Jadeja, Ashwin for so long, it looks like the expectation from the TM is to have spinners double up as decent lower order batsmen as well. If that is the case, then Kuldeep might not make the cut.

 

Washington, Tanush Kotian, Manav Suthar, Sai Kishore and Axar Patel seem to be the next set of spinners for India.

 

They might keep some of them dedicated to Tests and some for LOI..  The little that I have seen of Sai Kishore, he is more of a disciplined line/length bowler who might do better in white ball. His domestic numbers suggest the same thing. 

Axar also seems to have a strong suit in white ball.

 

So, it might be Washi in all formats (if he is fit), Tanush and Manav in Tests, and Sai/Axar and Kuldeep in ODI

Neither Axar or Tanush will make the XI anyway.. I think they just replaced an off-spinner who can bat with another

Poor kuldeep, only Indian spinner to take a 5fer in australia since kumble, but not even considered as 5th option now
