Actually he's just what the team needed. Keep one end tight so that Bumrah and others can take wickets. He did create enough chances. Poor captaincy and bad fielding did him in.

Yeah and don't forget he is just playing his second test outside India. Will be useful in England if he keeps learning. Can bowl long, accurate spells and his pace doesn't drop. He seems fitter than Rana.

Don't know why anyone's is not talking about Arshdeep, Arshdeep I beleive has a great potential with red ball, doesnt leak runs, swings it both ways. Can be a decent back up for bumrah over the current two.

Agree already made a thread yesterday for him

Him kuldeep sen harshit mayank should be next in line other than bumrah siraj

If he doesn't increase his pace he will remain unlucky forever

He is consistently in the 136-140 range. That is quick enough if you know how to work batsmen Bumrah is seldom faster than that these days. In SA Abbas is proving a handful at 125k tops.

NCA has ensured they bury his career deep down under.
He switch to TN last year and they didn't play him, just used him as a passenger.

Mayank can barely get through 4 overs in an IPL game. No evidence he can cope physically with the demands of test cricket nor that he has wicket taking skills in red ball formats beyond short bursts of pace

I dont think he clocked 140, he used to hit 144 earlier.
Fastest was maybe 138-139, but on an avg around 132-134.
Bumrah till third test was hitting 145-146 as his quickest pace, this test he is down under and barely touching 140-141.
I don't think it's wise to compareAus conditions to SA, in Aus you need bit of pace and strength as sideways movement reduces after 30 odd overs, so bounce is the best weapon for a quick pacer.
SA is a combination of Aus and England where you will get bounce with movement all day.

Well Akashdeep is not in the team as an express pacer. He can be a steady foil to Bumrah and can bowl long spells if needed. He is still faster than Hazelwood. It is more important to have bowlers who have the skill to keep control and know how to work batsmen out. Not everyone has to be Jeff Thompson to succeed in Australia. The must successful Australian fast  bowler recently Mcgrath was 130-135k max and the likes of Terry alderman, Stuart Clark etc have succeeded in Australia without being express.

Actually McGrath was a 135-142k pacer in his younger days like Cummins..he became slower only when he became 33-34 year old. Plus he had such a high release point that even at 135k his deliveries will rise up to the batters. Stuart Clark too was tall.

Our bowlers aren't that tall and Bumrah has the highest release point as he don't bend his leg at time release. Akash and Siraj do hence their release height won't trouble batters much unless they put extra effort through their shoulders (which is tiring).

In Australia, you either need to have bounce, or have to beat batters in terms of airspeed as ball movement will be lesser when kookaburra gets softer.

we don't have tall bowlers so Akashdeep has to up his pace. SA pitches are a different beast altogether.

That's not going to happen at his age and is in fact the Pakistani formula inherited from T20 which ruins bowlers since all they focus on is how phhasst they are and never emphasize control or the art of bowling in long spells and taking wickets which test matches require. Most modern batsmen will comfortably handle any extra pace Akashdeep may offer so reinventing himself as an express pacer has more risk than reward. All the Indian names people are throwing up as alternatives are at best 4 overs per day merchants which is a very different kettle of fish.

The case is not for Akashdeep to become an express bowler.

Rather its him being his older self...the one which clocked 137-144k vs England.

A 130 kph bowler can become 135kph one without losing any skills...just by refining action. But they can't become a 140kph bowler unless they have the zeal to do that. Same goes for a 135kph bowler to become 140/145k and so on.
