How many of the shots here played by Gavaskar can be played by Kohli? Bud you're comparing a batter who'll most likely walk into an All-Time XI as an opener (Gavaskar) to a mediocre batter at best who would struggle to get into any team other than the ones made up by his fanbois. Comparing the two is an insult to Gavaskar. Can you imagine Kohli facing the WI bowlers in 70s and 80s? He can't even handle basic, straight deliveries outside off stump. clownkiller, Vijy and rollingstoned 3

Actually if you look at Rahul and Jadeja and also sometimes pant when he defends .heck even the last innings of Rohit .the way to survive in these tracks is to play close to the body and defend the incoming balls...that way you would never get out chasing anything...the bowler has to get close to the wicket and you can then drive easily and on the straight or flick. But that requires discipline. Yes you might get a unplayable delivery but that's going to take something special from the bowler

Even Azhar had many more shots - just that he didn't know when to use them, and didn't have the best technique vs pace/bounce.

Lord Posted January 4, 2025 Posted January 4, 2025 My wish of seeing him get out in different way remained unfulfilled At this point he should have been slogging every ball rollingstoned, Laaloo, Ultimate_Game and 1 other 4
Teengunalagaan Posted January 4, 2025 Posted January 4, 2025 If I remember correctly there were times when Sachin was struggling he used to go back to Ranji to work on his issues, when did the last time likes of Rohit, Kohli, Gill played any domestic cricket... Ultimate_Game and rollingstoned 2

He somehow managed without it when his reflexes were better. Now, with reflexes slowing down with age, he has to commit to a front foot shot a bit too early against pace. If Kohli wants to prolong his career while performing, he needs to take a couple of months off and develop an off stump back foot game against pacers. It will take much more time .

Lord Posted January 4, 2025 Posted January 4, 2025 If its so obvious what the bowler is trying, it should be easy for any batsman to play and avoid that dismissal. Kohli could have tried to back away and cut on offside or even play inside the line.
vvvslaxman Posted January 4, 2025 Posted January 4, 2025 Can we officially say Kohli is Boland's bitch?

The Hound Posted January 4, 2025 Posted January 4, 2025 Might be an unpopular opinion but i think sarfaraz would've done better at #4 in this tour. Most of the balls in which virat got out he would've dabbed and cut to the boundary which is his strong zone.

kosingh Posted January 4, 2025 Posted January 4, 2025 Good thing Virat did not play in the 1990s. With the likes of McGrath, Ambrose and Pollock his career average would have been under 30.

As a fan of Ganguly, Ganguly was never comfortable against pace yet scored 10k ODI and had very good test average. what makes you believe Kohli would fail when he is always supreme against pace? You are seeing fag end of kohli . I think peak kohli would have succeeded in previous era. How would sachin have fared with out helmet like gavaskar against Malcom marshall/garner etc. ? Very wrong to compare players from different eras. Players in the past did not have to play three formats(t20/odi/test). The media pressure was negligible . Compare that to current digitial/social media and the amount of preassure Kohli or a rohit would have had to endure.
