Real McCoy Posted January 10, 2025 Posted January 10, 2025 This AO is truly open, pardon the pun. We are beginning to see a new rivalry at the top with Sinner and Alcaraz vying for the pole position. Djokovic is the old horse and Zverev is always in competition if the top 2 slip up. Sinner is the defending champion after he destroyed Djokovic to replace the old king at RLA. This is a mouthwatering tournament with Djokovic-Alcaraz meetup predicted in the QF. coffee_rules Posted January 10, 2025 Posted January 10, 2025 Looking forward to watch tennis after Rafa retired. No more tension. Will root for the young Spaniard !! Real McCoy 1
Gollum Posted January 10, 2025 Posted January 10, 2025 (edited) Will watch only SFs/F...or if two of the 4 names OP mentioned face off before that, like Nole vs Alcaraz here. No more a tennis fanatic like I was till as recent as 3-4 years back. Edited January 10, 2025 by Gollum Real McCoy 1
Gollum Posted January 10, 2025 Posted January 10, 2025 Sinner and Swiatek's doping cases have turned me off big time. Especially the way ATP/WTA handled them, blatant favoritism.

Somebody who is not a big 3 fan will be urging on Sinner and Alcaraz to be the next big stars. Gollum 1
Real McCoy Posted January 13, 2025 Author Posted January 13, 2025 Djokovic wins against Basavareddy in the first round. @Gollum This was similar to the 1st round match that Federer played against Nagal in USO 19 only that Basavareddy has more weapons than Nadal. He has a good serve and has more attacking shots than Nagal. Djokovic would have preferred to get this done in straights but was surprised by his teenage opponent who matched him for almost two sets. Djokovic is no match for Alcaraz if he plays like this. @Austin 3:!6@Lord WTF man I asked this to be pinned. You took all the effort to change the section from cricket to chit chat but forgot to pin it. Pin it in this section atleast. After 2 weeks you can do what you want Muloghonto, coffee_rules and Gollum 2 1

Real McCoy Posted January 15, 2025 Author Posted January 15, 2025 The big stars move to the next round. Tsisipas and Ruud fall in the first and second round but their exit was expected sometime or the other. Djokovic gets another 4 set victory. I don;t know if its his intensity or the opponent playing better for a set or two. I don;t think he will win any more grandslams if he plays like this. @Muloghonto predicted he will retire after he gets 25. It seems a mirage at this point. If he doesn't, it will be wise for him to hang up his boots after this year. Muloghonto 1
Real McCoy Posted January 16, 2025 Author Posted January 16, 2025 just watched the medvedev-tien game from the middle of the 3rd set. What a game! This is the match of the tournament so far. Tien looks a talented youngster only 19. He broke when Medvedev was serving for the match to take it to a 5th set teibreaker and won it 10-7. Kudos to him. Gollum, nevada and Vickydev 3
nevada Posted January 17, 2025 Posted January 17, 2025 Disappointed to see Joao Fonseca depart in the second round after an impressive win in R1! Hoping to see the young man do much better at the big tournaments this year. I like Sinner and Alcaraz both, don't mind seeing one of them win the title. Real McCoy 1
Sandz Posted January 20, 2025 Posted January 20, 2025 Novak being such a drama queen again. It was just banter and he blew it up, now the Serbian ambassador is calling for ethics review! Wtf!

Last wimbledon was a damp squib. Nole is an obvious underdog here. I guess he is trying to turn this media thing into a motivational drive. Haven't watched the last match. Can't comment on what happened. Gollum, coffee_rules and nevada 2 1

I also want to see Alcaraz fight a little for the win not easy straight sets
Gollum Posted January 21, 2025 Posted January 21, 2025 Simply the greatest ever, bravo Nole. Real McCoy and Texan 1 1
Real McCoy Posted January 21, 2025 Author Posted January 21, 2025 Nole wins. What a champion. He looked toast for almost 2 sets with Alcaraz playing awesome tennis. Yet he somehow wins the 2nd and plays standout tennis in the 3rd and 4th to win the match. He still got it. Don't know if he will win the tournament but I think Zverev is no match for him mentally. Zverev played a lousy match against Paul who dominated him for 3 sets but managed to win the match in 4. Texan, Gollum and nevada 3
