Rohit Sharma was all set to retire after the fourth test, but it is understood that some "well-wishers" from the outside forced him to change his mind

I am talking about modern times, no way any south indian will be captain under this government

This is what you said

South Indians have always been treated differently, kumble, karun nair, list goes on

Even now KL has captained India at times despite not even deserving a spot.

Waah

Anyway, FYI, Rohit's parents are from Vizag, another city in Andhra Pradesh. He is a Telugu guy from Mumbai.

KL Rahul has captained under "current govt".

By that logic, even the players from UP should protest now that they don't get chance to become captain. Shami too deserve captaincy.

Didn't Kela captain in a bunch of matches across formats in 2022? If not for his poor returns, he was set to captain long term.

KL Rahul too has Mumbai connection...i e married to Suniel Shetty's daughter..hence not considered :cantstop:

Although even Suniel Shetty is a South Indian..Anna is from Mangaluru.

I guess only state thats left now in South India is Kerala...we need to make Sanju Samson as captain and even that excuse too will run its due course.

Nobody cares why he didn't retire. Selectors should just do their job.

True. Selectors are not doing their jobs. Who the hell is selecting these stupid selectors? Looks at Gill, Rahul, Jadeja and so on. Just free visa and travels. Agarkar too.

No ganguly, Sachin, VVS, Rahul made way for likes of Rohit and Virat dint make the way, sachin was told to announce the retirement else they will pick the team without him,

ganguly was dropped and then made a comeback he too was not ready to retire, VVS was also bitter about his retirement, think he called dhoni and he dhoni didnt pick the call.

All Ind superstars takes 3/4 years extra to retire, they do not retire till they are forced to and considered dead weight in the side.

Any idea why GILL is still not retiring from Test cricket? Too much influence in BCCI?

Gill has an excuse of KL.

When one 34 averaging batter can play 58 Tests (& continuing), why can't I ?

Source for sachin was told? Ganguly, vvs, Rahul all were given less than a year. Sachin played for a year and few months after losing form.

Sachin had enough clout to remain in the team of he wanted

How can you even compare with likes of those hanging for 5+ years?

google about sachin retirement will find multiple article about in/by news media groups, can also google about vvs too.

At certain point its not about clout its ppl waiting in the queue and audiences asking for change. Same scenario like Anderson.

Not comparing, just the fact that once some1 gets the superstar status they can get 3/4 more years, nothing new. There are multiple factors sponsors, clout in bcci and it becomes above selectors play grade to drop them.

Amarnath was selector he suggested to drop dhoni next thing u know Amarnath was dropped fm selection panel.

South Indians are tasked to head ISRO but can't captain a cricket team under this government, yeah right.

Don't have much options as all the great scientists are in the south.

Gill is 25/26 why would he retire.

On serious note why is he in the team ??-- Same reason why KL has been in the team.

BCCI think him as of next superstar and all format captain. Till now all their hope have landed them at wrong places -- KL, Pant, Gill....

Never seem ind cricket to not able to judge who is a top draw future batter and who is not.

They would mess up with fast bowlers in picking the right bowler but they were good in knowing who is good batter and who is not.

I guess the reason behind is coz selectors, captain & coach are having 3 different views now.

Historically, post Srini mama's era..it's always been captain who had command, coach & selectors just followed him.

After long time, we are seeing a scenario where captain, coach & chief selectors all 3 are notable faces with decent exposure to international cricket (and they have played alongside as well). So no one is ready to budge and are trying to pull each other as a tug of war.

Rohit wants experience...Gambhir, wants to go on his gut feel and in between is Agarkar who is trying to pacify both sides by juggling around the players...

There are news that Rohit wanted Arshdeep & Kamboj for Australia tour as the backup pacer but GG pushed Harshit Rana & Prasidh. Rohit wanted Ashwin to continue while GG asked for Washington.

I guess unless GG is removed from coach position or Rohit retires, this tussle will continue. Thats becoming a major distraction.

Gill and KL and many others came before GG and Agarkar tenure.

The tussle and blame game will keep on going as they are losing.

Donot think before becoming the selector agarkar was any kind of force in bcci.

Not sure what rohit wants both Arshdeep and Kamboj are as exp. as Harshit and Prasidh in test.

Ashwin went on the context that if he goes to Aus he will get to play else he will retire, they didnt give him game so he retired keeping his words. Unlike rohit who made it look like he will retire but he didnt (just a speculation -- rohit was thinking he will get the same kind of support frm fans and his pr will turn it around for him as they did in MI situation, but this time fans had enough of it and were ready for him to retire so he had to come-out and do an interview saying he is not retiring and it was his own idea to sit out another part of pr gimmick of being selfless - selfless ppl are not insecure, he has made efforts to be aggressive batter which kind of  worked in white-ball cricket but you donot need that in test specially play as many ball score at 55-65 sr that is good at one point team would have a score where the opposition are out batted  )
