Unfair on Jaddu who is a test titan, especially in SC like conditions where we play 50% of our games. In an all time India XI at home, he will be an easy top 5 pick even for his worst critics. Useful in SENA as well, especially as batsman in last 5 years. 

 

Don't like him in white ball. But let us not confuse formats. Gill will have done very well if he ends his career having achieved 50% of what Jaddu did in the premier format.

Pant in tests, his best format. Think he will be a more strategic captain, he actually understands test cricket very well, the ebbs and flows, and will be a bowler's captain which is best for Indian cricket. 

 

Bumrah in ODIs with special focus on ICC events, needn't burden him in useless bilaterals. 2027 CWC should be his target, give him leeway to do as he pleases to bring home the big cup. After that, can be changed since will be too old for 2031 WC. 

 

SKY doing a decent job in T20Is, maybe after '26 WC, give it to Bumrah to lead us in '28.

 

3 formats, 3 captains. So spread of power better distributed unlike the cases of MSD, Kohli, Rohit.

 

Anyway Indian captain has a shelf life of 4, max 5 years. In the meantime groom next captains, Jaiswal already a shoo in, 1/2 more will emerge.

I think Pant is our best test cricketer but he isn't captaincy material, especially in LOI's. He is too relaxed and gives Rohit vibes.

 

Bumrah can be our captain but then he gets injured too frequently and wont play bilaterals or even test series vs smaller teams in India.

 

For tests, make Bumrah the captain and Jaiswal his deputy.

 

For LOIs, even though I don't like Iyer too much and he has problem against good bowling attacks, I would still give him the captaincy. Pant isn't even a confirmed choice, Rahul is the worst captain and we Gill is on a downward slope.

You need to specifically mention LOIs when you call Jadeja a fraud, he is one of the best test cricketer we have produced,

Problem is '27 WC is in RSA, and Iyer will be a walking wicket. Once returns in primary skill go down, adversely affects confidence and even a good captain can become a poor decision maker, as we saw with Ganguly in mid 2000s.

2027 has both odi wc and wtc finals. They can keep Bumrah as captain for this period for both these tournaments and ask him to take special care of his body for this period by skipping IPL and bilaterals. Also resting from home tests when needed.

 

I just wish they keep T20I group of players entirely different as it is now, with SKY as captain, may be only have Bumrah to play it when T20 WC comes. That unit is exciting me a lot.

Abhishek, Sanju, Tilak, SKY, Pandya, Rinku, Nitish, Axar - the most exciting top 8 for Indian conditions.

Being mature at the crease does not make him a good captain. We haven't seen him captain anything before. Sachin was a mature batter and a great but he was a poor captain overall. He got flustered when captaining the side and it was chaos. We are currently seeing a horrible captain/coach combination, the last thing we need is to push one of our best batters into something he is not comfortable with and lose him as a player as well.

 Gill and Pant shat the bed. Rohit, Virat, Jadeja, Ashwin are out of the picture. Bumrah cannot be expected to play regularly because of physical demands. There are not many options. Siraj, Kuldeep? Of course not. Pandya - doesn't seem to want to play any cricket except IPL and T20 World Cup. KL? Doesn't even deserve to be in the team, let alone captain. 

 

The next couple of years are going to tough regardless.
