In hindsight India employed an innovative approach... they treated Pak pacers like spinners and used their feet to clobber them all over.

I wonder why we don't do the same while facing spinners :hmmm:

Facing spinner they donot know which way balls is spinning and how much it is going to spin and if they miss there is a wkt to get them.

Plus its hard these days to step-out and play unless as a batter they are fully committed to hit a 4/6, dabbing and scooping is not part of the game any more because of less open spaces (smaller grounds and faster out fielders) plus bowlers are not giving much air to the ball its not loopy bowling anymore that a batter can step-down an get under the ball, thats why its needed for a batter to be able to hit  fr 4/6 the ball from the crease

Against pacer this is mater of approach. Rohit does it because he is trying to hit every ball, he needs to make his own lengths and pre-empt the bowler.

Kolhi and gill uses their feet is because they lack the power game, they can drive the ball to 4/6 when in slot but when needed to hit 4/6 (pre decided thing) they need to create momentum. McCullum talks about this openly when asked why would he step-out to fast bowler think it was in reference to facing tait.

If Indian batters don't know which way the ball will spin after growing up playing spin in domestic cricket, and that too while facing SENA spinners, then they don't deserve to play. Period.

Surely you can use your feet against likes of Maxwell, Head, Bracewell, Livingstone etc. It's not as if they've mystery balls. Phir toh laanat hai batters pe if they can't even use their feet against this lot.

new shots against spinners are sweep, reverse sweep, ramps and if as a batter they want to hit from covers to mid-wkt then they need to hit it from the crease.

Ind batters lacks all these shots so yes it can be said that Ind batters are not good against spin and all these modern shots are not just t20 shots but SENA batters uses them in tests too

If we can't score against spinners despite playing them right from school days while SENA folks can, that means we're not picking the right players or there's something wrong with the system. Send them to domestic to figure it out or get batters who can hammer those spinners like Jaiswal, Parag, Rinku, Abhishek etc. We've the players who can hammer spinners but we stick to "old is gold" selection policy.

Our T20 team has taken every spinner \to cleaners in the recent past while the same spinners troubled our main batters. Shows some of the batters have regressed and taking things for granted.

domestic is filled with LA spin, no special bowler there, there are only 5/6 spinners with potential and against LA spin batters only play cover drives.

in white ball any team with multiple LA spin can make progress to later stages of tournament. not many batters are playing these shots

Then find the best you have and play him (except Chahal). The best way to get more players to pick or prioritize a certain skill is by encouraging players who have those skills. You'll start to see progress eventually. But first BCCI has to stop "Impact Player" rule as it's detrimental to all-rounders and multi-dimensional players. If you can sub in a specialist there's no incentive for players to focus on multiple skills.

Have contrary thoughts on impact player , its a v.good rule it eliminates all low potential so called allrounders who are good at nothing -- Gautam, Shahruk, Lalit yadav etc are not finding space in the team giving space to high potential batter or bowler and only a proper allrounder can now make it to the 11. This ends fake allrounders who's role was to just balance the team.

Ashutosh, NKR etc got the chance in 11 just because of the rule. This rule ensure if they are making into the team they have be really good in atleat 1 of the skill and and secondary skill gives them the edge in the selection.

IPL has not produced any allrounder in 15 years and it wont because its not the platform its upto domestics, make it mandatory that pacer has to be 135 kmph at least else they can not make it to ranji team that is a v.simple solution and will resolve fast bowler issue plus pace allrounder issue .

I dont know about others but I was able to pick Abrar’s googlies during his bowling.. he seemed to be giving them extra air with clear difference than his usual pace and trajectory..

they should have this data on him if it is this simple, this is one of the reason Ind should only play varun in t20is  no need to expose him in longer format.

ya they should..but I was just purely observing while watching match from the comfort of my couch..not sure how tougher it is for the batters who are actually playing him..

But from naked eye it was a clear difference..Rashid Ali etc is tough to pick..

Analysts should work that out. Thought the wicket to gill was also flighted but turned away. Just simply pick the way seam is moving

He is a leg spinner so even if they do not have data or not able to figure, the easy way would be if the line is in stumps then its stock leg-spin and out side the  stump line its googly. Batter can judge the line easily

9.2 rpo tells only half the story. Gill and Pandya stepped out repeatedly and thrashed him like a spinner!  He did manage to dismiss Pandya with a short ball but that was a lucky dismissal with a faint touch on the ball. Afridi didn't even retaliate with short stuff against Gill.

They did this to pak bowlers  in aisa cup and world cup 2023 too.

that was fast pitched on\outside of leg stump and turned sharp..was a really tough ball to handle if you are playing without much footwork
