Chakdephatte Posted March 5, 2025 Posted March 5, 2025 Iyer is phenomenal. A better ODI batsman than Babar, Hope, Smith, probably Root, Williamson and even Gill. Put all debates to trash, he deserves this number 4 position as much as Kohli and anybody else. Rondu, tapandrun, Lord and 1 other 1 3

I hope he finishes games and stays till the end more. Good chance he might be odi captain after Hitman retires as he is the right age too.

Gill barely has had an impact in ICC tourney. IMO Jaiswal should've been picked ahead of Gill. Ideally Jaiswal should be in place of Rohit but since Captain Fatty isn't going anywhere, may as well replace Gill with Jaiswal and get a right-left combination. tapandrun 1

vvvslaxman Posted March 6, 2025 Posted March 6, 2025 If anybody wants to copy about ODI innings construction he is that guy. He picks up singles consistently. He also has good release shots. This is some strike rotationg by him

We want our stars to do much more than score a 100 against B'desh. Didn't do much in 2023 WC, failed in 2 WTC Finals and failed against both NZ and Aus in the SF. Has to do something in a knockout match for once. He has had enough chances.

Yes he has issues with short bowling but In odis if batter is smart they can pick and chose. also he may be unfit for sena tours but sc he can handle it provided he uses his brains can not have obvious weakness in t20is and tests but in odis think batters can work around it. I would say even T20s would be a good format for him as you only face one short ball in an over in T20 whereas in ODIs you can have up to 2 bouncers in an over. Iyer's a pretty decent short format batter and I would rather Iyer replace SKY. Iyer has shown more steel and has stepped up when the going's tough. Can't say the same for SKY.

Bowler will bowl short stuff abd because its t20is he would have to go for it and could result in a wkt and can not leave or duck them either will add up pressure on him and other batter. its good not to mix the format, he is doing good in odis let him be there till he find a permanent fix for short ball. As for sky he has not stood-up in any big game so far but he is a good t20 batter , ind still need him. ppl may see him as weak link in big games but s.iyer is not the answer, tm and selectors should look for an upgarde on him Ultimate_Game 1

I would take a batter like Sai Sudarshan in their place if he's clutch. Look at Steve Smith. Nobody would say he's a great ODI batter but he showed up almost everytime at the crunch. That's what you want from your key players. I would rather the player is not as flashy as SKY and has a slightly lower SR but if they can show up in big games I'll take likes of Sai or Iyer ahead of SKY with both hands. After CT we need to revamp the ODI team with Rohit, Jadeja and Kohli being sunset. We can bring in Jaiswal and probably Sai Sudarshan into the mix along with Parag, Rinku and Nitish Reddy. Don't think SKY will go anywhere till next year's WT20 but if he fails there, time to let him go. He's already pushing mid 30s and make someone like Tilak, Pandya or even Iyer the new captain.

Think sky is only there till next t20i wc , again s.iyer is not the answer for t20is. Have only seen sai in ipl and 1 odd odi in sa, he looks solid and have that elegance of lh batter who play with short front foot press, but what this ct 2025 has shown these kind of batter who can not play with tempo, i.e. to keep the tempo and try increasing it all the time will play match losing innings more often. even if rizwan and babar's innings are removed there have been so many such bad innings from that kind of batters -- williamson and smith vs Ind, ducket even thought he played 150 was a match losing efffort, root vs afgn, bavuma vs nz in sf. there are too many evidences that these kind of batters are putting their team in sort of a situation where they need some 1 to get runs v.quickly or they will end up sub par totals and that is v.obvious while setting up target. kolhi's innings are not scrutinized because it was sub 275 target and if you look his innings and approach vs aus 2nd string bowling line-up that was not that good it took Ind last over to win and easily that innings would have been deemed as not that good.
The Dark Horse Posted March 6, 2025 Posted March 6, 2025 I thought Rahul was doing well. He was being shunted up and down the order. Not against Pant, but Rahul deserves his place as of today.
