Gollum Posted October 28, 2025 Posted October 28, 2025 (edited) Keep regional languages but make English the official one. Like what Singapore has, no matter what you may feel about it, English is the road to knowledge, prosperity and communication with rest of the world, best thing the colonialists gave us. Lingua franca of the world, and we Indians have a headstart. It is very hypcritical to see Indians converse in English on forums, use it to make professional strides, educate their kids in English medium schools but want rest of the country to make the sacrifices and learn whatever regional language is the flavor of the season or geography. India = 1.45 billion Pakistan= 255 million BD 180 million Nepal, afghanistan, uae, expat south Asians. After English, Hindi is the 2nd biggest language in the world. Russian and Chinese pressure apparently is the reason... Tajiks had to make sure we leave. MKI's were there only temporarily. I think the access to Farkhor and Ayni is still there, but in limited use. Plus, we never had any agreement with Tajik govt as well about his base, so it hints that we were using this base only temporarily.

Lee Kuan Yew was a certified legend. Even Deng Xiaoping was heavily influenced by his philosophy. Fully agree that English should be Made national language in the country. The one that binds North South ,East and especially North East. The one thing that this country can truly unite upon. This is the common ground for everyone. The world hasn't seen the potential of 1 billion English speaking population throughout the course of history. We will be there. Gollum 1

SG is a small country. Easier to implement the solutions. India being a massively diverse country, one size fit all approach wont work. Yeah, English is being used as a primary means to communicate. Coz it's the de facto language of world. But parallely there are many segments within country which arent comfortable with English. Its easier for them to switch to a common language rather than conversing in English. Its my personal opinion, but keeping Sanskrti alive will help us in understanding our texts better. Most of us feel disconnected through our roots coz the mantras and shlokas sound alien to us. raki05 and Mariyam 1 1

Can I converse with a Japanese or Swedish person in Hindi? Can I present my research work in Hindi? Or even do analysis of my experimental data? Tomorrow if I want to learn something new, what language will the learning resources be? It is utterly selfish to learn English for the betterment of my life but dissuade young kids from doing so. Without English as a common mode of communication, ICF will shut down by end of the week. There is a reason why even Russians, Chinese, Japs, Koreans etc. are crazy about learning English, demand for English teachers there is sky high. They look at Indians with envy because we pick it up much easier than them, also the main reason behind our economic growth in recent times. Mariyam 1

Russian, chinese japan etc. want a working knowledge of English to communicate with the world. In South Asia, no. 1 is Hindi, number 2 English, number 3 is your regional language. I am in Ajmer as earlier mentioned, met travellers from Orissa, Gujarat n Kerala etc. (coming to pushkar etc. ) each one of them speak perfect hindi. If lets say a Bengali and Afghani converse they do it in Hindi. Hindi isn't a regional language, it is 2nd biggest language of the world, spoken and/or understood by 25 (n growing) percent of the world (2 billion out of 8 billion).

Hinduism must adapt if it wants to get mainstreamed throughout the world. What better mode to do this than English? Gollum 1
Gollum Posted October 28, 2025 Posted October 28, 2025 Those harping about Hindi (even those having it as mother tongue), please read this year's budget and economic survey in Hindi and tell me if you understand anything, because I tried once before and couldn't. Also pick some Hindi translated school textbook of Physics, Chemistry and compare with the OG English versions. And since this is a cricket forum, please take a copy of Hindi, Bengali, Urdu, Punjabi, Tamil, Malayalam translation of MCC's cricket manual and see if you can make sense of what is written. You will immediately notice that explaining technical stuff even in a sport like cricket is far easier in English. There is a reason why Hindi commentators offer zero technical insights if limited to just that language and have to insert in a gazillion English words to make sense. There is a reason why globally you will always have English commentary stream of any sport/game. Be it football, tennis, basketball, cricket, wrestling, badminton, chess, people always gravitate towards English version, because it is much easier to follow. Sure, a Russian may understand chess commentary in Russian just fine, Chinese may prefer his/her language in TT, Hindi in kabaddi, but such languages don't transcend geography like English. English is the greatest language in the history of humanity, we have to make peace with that. The simplicity and the size of vocabulary, so much harmony even when describing the most complicated subject matter. You have a word or phrase to describe literally anything, and it is the universal language of science. Mariyam and kepler37b 1 1

Bengali is number 2 among widely spoken languages in South Asia. Frankly speaking economically Hindi is redundant as a language and so are other South Asian languages. Mandarin became the Asian Substitute thanks to Chinese economic rise from the 90's. Made Diplomats, businesses and professionals to learn Mandarin. Chinese government and cultural institutions (Confucius Institutes, scholarship programs) have actively funded language teaching and created clear pathways for study and work. India's IT services and start ups are mostly English driven so no incentive for foreigners to push for an local language... Neither do we have any sort of Institutions working abroad. India has cracked the code that Only English as a medium can help during our upcoming Industrialisation phase. @Gollum Edited October 28, 2025 by Lone Wolf

Even countries like China, Russia, Japan which used to place so much importance on their languages, all have taken up English on war footing, they have opened up to changing reality and needs of our time. If you don't adapt, you will be left isolated in this globally connected world. I have been in many science conferences with East Asian people and they all communicate in English in a common setting, though they still use their languages when they are with their groups or during luncheons or dinner galas. Most of the technical talk, there is no language more efficient than English, and it will remain so 200 years from now. We Indians don't realize how lucky we are with our headstart in learning the lingua franca. As you said, critical for growth of our nation. Also the greatest economic equalizer. A poor, low caste guy from rural India with command over English can make strides in one generation which would normally take multiple generations for a person in his place. Lone Wolf 1

If we start something today, results will be visible 2 or 3 decades later. Reason is again our size. No wonder, why we're compared with an elephant, takes lot of time to pivot. Israel did rejuvenate a dead language Hebrew, and they've strong control on English as well. We have enough foundation for Sanskrit, just need to start slow and then expand it further. For ex. Mattur village in Karnataka talks entirely in Sanskrit, why not include Sanskrit in official communication of Shivamogga district and see how it goes. Or maybe start from DevBhumi and include Sanskrit in signboards from Haridwar onwards. FYI...most of us can read Sanskrit, courtesy of Devnagari. So it's just a matter of understanding, once we have that, speaking too will come.
Gollum Posted October 28, 2025 Posted October 28, 2025 Btw nothing personal against any language in India. All have great history, literature, traditions, loved by millions. Just that I want the best for our people and country. In the modern world, English is the only logical choice for us to advance. Lone Wolf 1

We need a Ghatak variant with 500km to 1000km combat radius capable of carrying 3-4 BVR and 1 Brahmos. Thats 2000kg carrying capacity across 4-5 hardpoints. AESA radar and strong networking ability. Stealth is not going to be an issue. Expect stealth of 0.01. Key issue is cost. a single one needs to be under $30million. 52kn dry thrust will be needed which Kaveri can produce.
