Bumrah apart, this is not a bowling attack that will hold any threats for the English especially in the warm and sunny conditions the match is going to be played in. Jadeja has never been a threat in England and could well be outbowled by Bashir. Selecting a bowling attack for their batting is a strategy that has not usually worked for India. I would pick Kuldeep even if it means comprimising on the batting a bit because taking wickets is the only way India have a chance of winning any games here.

Jadeja has played 12 matches in England so we have a large sample and a pretty good idea of his effectiveness here. His bowling average in England is 43.48. He not going to add to the wicket taking threat and at best he can only be someone get through some overs.
vvvslaxman Posted June 18, 2025 Posted June 18, 2025 To be fair in English conditions you need a bit of variety. pace, swing, seam. THey even mowed down guys like CUmmins, Hazlewood last time. Metronomic bowling alone is not going to work against bazballers In 2023 Starc averaged 27 Cummins averaged 37 Hazlewood averaged 31 where as Broad averaged 28 Woakes averages 18 Wood averagd 20 Ollie robinson averaged 28 Anderson was odd ball averaging 85. He was blaming the pitches. BacktoCricaddict 1

It has worked very well for India in last decade when Ashwin /Jadeja/Sundar /Thakur have saved us after so called specialist batsmen shat the bed umpteen times

The primary job of Ashwin, Jadeja and Thakur was to take wickets. Ashwin often didn't make the starting XI in England, in England, Jadeja and Thakur have a bowling average of 40 odd. They may have played the odd innings as a result of a top order collapse but trying to address batting deficiencies via bowlers has clearly not worked in helping India win a series here when the team was stronger than it is now.

If it was stronger why were these so called batsmen not doing their job and were needed to be rescued time and again. Almost every Test we have won overseas has been due to lower order contribution First lets have batsmen do their jobs if that's sorted we can have bowlers for wickets only tweaker 1

The batting unit has changed through retirements etc. That doesn't mean you stick with the same defensive bowling mindset where apart from Bumrah, everyone else is there just to get through their overs and bat a bit rather than trying to take 20 wickets.
