These are not mutually exclusive issues. The batting unit has changed through retirements etc. That doesn't mean you stick with the same defensive bowling mindset where apart from Bumrah, everyone else is there just to get through their overs and bat a bit rather than trying to take 20 wickets.

Bumrah, Prasidh, Siraj all are in for their bowling.

The batting is inexperienced now with many on their first Eng tour. You can rack up 6 'wicket taking' bowlers but it won't matter if runs are not there

1. Jaiswal

2. Rahul

3. Sai / Jurel

4. Gill

5. Karun

6. Pant

7. Nitish

8. Jadeja

9. Prasidh

10. Bumrah

11. Siraj

Team that GG and Gill will choose is likely to be -

1. Jaiswal

2. Rahul

3. Sai

4. Gill

5. Pant at no 5.

6. Karun Nair at no 6.

7. Shardul ahead of NKR (probably in the practice matches Shardul excelled)

8. Washington bats well and bowls well and he may get bounce in england. He will play ahead of Jaddu.

9. Prasidh

10. Bumrah

11. Siraj

There is still uncertainty regarding the playing 11 and their batting position.

There is confusion on who will bat at no 3.,Sai or Karun.

There is also uncertainty on the spinners and allrounder choice.

this has been a problem with our test team since GG took over,no clarity on roles or even their batting positions.

I don’t think putting Jadeja over Kuldeep will give any benefit to us.

It will because you are going with 4 tailenders. If we are on a pitch which is a seamer paradise and these days they are quite common in SENA, we will need Jadeja’s batting a lot more once the pitches eases out, say on Day 3. Kuldeep will nick one very quickly to slips.

As per the practice sessions ,Sai Sudarshan may open in the 1st test

Thats a surprise. Are you saying Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudarshan.

Not a bad move. But i think KL Rahul is in good form, and he bats defensively, good chance to succeed as an opener.

Yashasvi can score a 30 or a quick 50. with Swinging conditions, i feel Jaiswal may score some quick runs which will also count as batsman may play many balls and score little, finally it's the score that's important.

My night-before-the-test XI (if I was GG/SG)

Jaiswal

Rahul

Sudarshan

Gill

Pant

Nair

Sundar

Krishna

Rana

Siraj

Bumrah

This bowling attack is very good for English conditions.

By having Rana instead of Reddy Bowling will be strong and would be cover for Bumrah, Siraj,Prasiddh if they have bad day.

Also Bumrah  ' s workload can be managed and he could be used as strike bowler.

I'd play Nair at 3 and Jurel who is a very good test bat to be at no 6. I see that Jurel is not considered as pure batter and he is considered as back up wicket keeper , but he has done reasonably well in 4 tests he has played and I want him to continue own that spot. Nair  is best suited to negate any swing if one of the opener gets out. Shardul only because he can bat , otherwise I'd go for Rana. We need batting till 8 so that tail can wag. Arshdeep over Siraj for the left arm variation and swing he brings is probably more effective early on.

Totally agree about Jurel. His w/k skill seems to be more of a disadvantage than an advantage for him. He is a highly skilled M.O, bat.
