Only advantage ATG Aus has over WI....Shane Warne, only he could have been the difference between both sides.

Yes he was, but all their fast bowlers were equal or better than Mcgrath .They were far better than Jason Gillespie and Brett Lee.

Warne might win them a match but in a series the relentless pounding of four great fast bowlers would grind Aussie batting into dust.

Aussies got pounded by WI thru out 80s till mid 1990s. They did not back out, they endured that pounding and became better team which ruled world cricket.

Indians cannot shy away from 5 test series , they need to use them to become better team.

Border earned his stripes against them. Used to be lone warrior against those scary quicks, ultimately he set the template of modern Aus cricket that came into being under Taylor and then flourished under Waugh and Ponting. For me Border was the one who revived Aussies from a dark phase.

Agree with everything but IPL is a big motivation killer.

When even average fast bowlers like Avesh, Mukesh, Harshal, Unadkat earn cr after cr every year for doing abs nothing- how can we build up the fast bowler battery.

Why is somone like Harshit Rana not dreaming to become like Cummins or Hazelewood or Boland -- because he will earn about 100 crore in next 10 years from IPL+ endorsement. No real motivation in todays generation putting up hard yards. Its easy money. Why work hard then?

Border and Simpson were the architects on Aussies revival.Aussies are never afraid to lose the match going for the win that seperates them from other teams.

1986 Chennai test was beginning of that trend.

India and Australia were similar teams then but Indian teams lacked the will power to fight in the long run.

For that you need good captain and coach.

Jingostic Idiots like Gambhir  will not understand test cricket. This series players did give their everything, it is coaching which has held Indian team back. India should have been leading 2-1 atleast.

Funny that despite being inferior to Aus for most of the last 25 years, they have won away Ashes more recently. 2010-11 series was some display !!!! Aussie fans must be so pissed, so many times they came close but lost narrowly or 2-2 draw.

Yeah.

And NZ have beaten Ind and Eng away in the last 4 years which Aus have been unable to for more than 20 years.

That must really annoy them lol cause NZ are their bitches home/away.

5 match series is a point of pride - you need to be big ticket for 5 match series.

Workload for quicks was more than, just due to how much FC was played back then. Just check how many overs the county/Shield players back then would bowl every season. All big WI, Aus, RSA, Ind, Pak, NZ players used to play county or some FC.

Even as recently as 90s, check Wasim/Waqar's workload in CC.

Holding played only 60 tests, Roberts played 47 tests and Garner around 58. And all of them played for 10-12 years averaging at 5 tests per year.

Only Marshall played 81 tests in his 13 year career (averaging 6 tests per year).

Bumrah has played 49 tests in 7 years averaging at 7 per year, those are generous numbers considering his bowling action.

You are missing WSC and county.

WSC and county are not as high stakes as internationals.

Also let's not underestimate the energy expenditure in t20s, there is a reason why some fast bowlers only play t20s.

Worried about the bowling attack for the 5th test.

Bumrah won't play.
Siraj is done.

Akashdeep is injured.

Kamboj, Thakur, Krishna are not test class.

The best solution is to go with spin heavy attack for the final test.

Kuldeep, Washington & Jadeja backed by any two pacers.

County was big those days, most top players played them. WSC is the highest standard of cricket ever played, even Chappels, WI legends, Imran say so.

RSA didn't play internationals back then. Guess where Barry Richards, G Pollock, Procter made their name.

They all were low intensity FC games

County was big but low intensity.  It was like holiday for international players then.

We can't begrudge anyone for earning whatever they can when they can. Clearly the franchises think they're worth that amount.

It's time for international cricket especially red ball cricket to step it up and make it worthwhile for these guys to want to do it.

They had Packer series for three years. Otherwise they also would have played 80 odd tests.WSC players swear by the quality of cricket.Guys like Imran Khan said many times it was hardest cricket they ever played in his career.

Imran Khan also said that Pakistan will find unlimited fast bowlers in Waziristan, and look at them now.

Haan bhai, jaise ki WSC didn't care about commercial side of cricket at all.

It is not just Imran, it was Chappells, Richards, Clive lloyd and others all said the same thing. What has commercial angle of cricket got to do with quality of cricket.
