That is just one opener. Other opener had to be jaiswal since Rohit retired a nd Kohli retired. In 2023 world cup Rohit and Kohli opened. So both spots were open after 2023 world T20.

That's mean Pant or Jitesh as keeper. Wasted spot.

Both Abhishek and Jaiswal are neck and neck in 2024.  In 2023  Jaiswal topped the charts. Basically he had two consistent years. I am not saying he should be in the playing XI. But why is he not even in the squad?  

 

This is why i was saying unless Jaiswal learns to bowl his talent is going to go to waste.  Jaiswal is not considered as a poster boy by BCCI. May be he doesn't have that personality.

Yes Jaiswal has to earn the star status. And yes if he adds/refine some bowling skills he will become one of a kind a top order LH batter who can bowl leg-spin , he should plan to bowl in vht if the is playing and where ever he gets any chance. Also he should try batting in mo in t20s. would suggest same to Arya as well think he was playing no.#4 in ranji

 

In terms why he is not in the squad that is because there is no point in keeping him in 15 if they are planning to keep him on the bench. Its v.simple, event is in Ind they can call for him if needed. In previous wc it was okay to keep him on the bench as the wc was in wi and other than that Kolhi and rohit were opening so he he was not challenging any1.

Rajiv Mishra (earlier TOI, now Aaj Tak) saying that Agarkar, GG wanted Gill in the T20 WC squad. But Agarkar got overruled by the other selectors, especially RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha. Meeting was far from cordial as per Vikrant paaji (who is close to both RP and Ojha) and Agarkar tried to delay the announcement to force them to include Gill but they didn't budge.

The only way Jaiswal makes it if they pick a keeper who can play lower down the order, i.e. someone like Jitesh. Selectors messed up by going with Gill instead of Jaiswal with Jitesh in the team. Jaiswal should've been picked, not Gill.

 

There're two options:

Option 1: Abhishek and Jaiswal open with wk like Jitesh lower down the order.

Option 2: Abhishek and Samson (or Ishan or any other wk) open which opens up a spot for a lower or middle order batter like Rinku or Parag.

 

Selectors went with Option 2, which is fine. The problem is they never tried out option 1 with Jaiswal and went with Gill when Jaiswal clearly outperformed him in IPL and T20I. That's on selectors. If Jaiswal had been given the chances which Gill got, he could've formed a stellar opening partnership with Abhishek and Jitesh coming in lower down. But we'll never know now thanks to selectors' Gill fetish.

Yes keeping or bowling what ever comes naturally to him. Rutu was playing at #4 and wk in few games in their local t20 league.

 

Saw some bbl highlights Finn Allen (Nz opener) was keeping , top order is stacked and there are other batter who are coming in too so have to do something else as well

Apart from Top1,2 & 3 ; batting order is an outdated concept in T20Is. EVERY BALL IS AN EVENT AND BATTERS MUST COME WITH THE MINDSET OF PLAYING THE BALL ON MERIT AND HAVE GOOD SHOT-SELECTION .

 

Only drawback of our team is POOR CATCHING & too much dependence on Abhishek & Hardik to get to winnable totals .

Now, hope a similar conversation happens for Test cricket and proper batsmen are picked instead of the all rounder mania.

Think they were appointed recently only, hardly a couple of months.

 

SS Das was the other selector who opposed Gill.

Think Abhishek+Sanju is at par with Abhishek+Jaiswal , sanju is also playing ~190 sr .

 

The third option was to open with Sanju+Jaiswal and use Abishek is finisher
