Gollum Posted January 26 Posted January 26 (edited) 21 minutes ago, New guy said: Sorry to say, but this is a direct result of a country becoming more religious. I have already mentioned in length about why its a problem if the majority religion is pushed by government and how it can lead to fascism. But there are various other side effects of a government pushing religion and a country moving from secularism to religious. I wouldn't say religion per se. Just that a very twisted, homogeneous version of religion and culture is being forced. Everybody should speak one language, have one kind of diet, offer prayers in a particular manner etc. People who genuinely revived Hinduism in the 20th century weren't like these moron babas of today. If people read about Ramakrishna Paramhansa's views about meat eating and bali, they will be shocked, he would create fuss if Sarada Devi didn't prepare his favorite mutton curry. Swami Vivekananda asked his followers to set Gita aside and play football, who the * are these modern day charlatans to overrule a giant like him? He himself organzed so many wrestling clubs/akhadas in India to foster community spirit, physical health, etc. Many of our revolutionaries started their paths from there. Aurobindo, Tilak etc. also used religion to mobilize masses but did so in a positive manner, and paid great price at the hands of the Brits. Vidyasagar used Vedas to refute social ills like ban on widow remarriage...same Vidyasagar promoted girl's education like no other social reformer at that time. Swami Dayananda used his knowledge of Vedas to refute rituals, untouchability and promoted modern western education and scientific thinking. All these people (many more from all over India) had mastery over the Vedas, Upanishads, Itihasa, languages including Sanskrit which today's idiots won't come close to after a 1000 rebirths. One common theme was 'live and let live', the philosophy which sets our religion apart from Abrahamic ones. A true Hindu should have no issue with what some random tribal dude from Odisha chooses to have for supper. Edited January 26 by Gollum Lord 1

And pretty sure 60 to 70% of Indians consume alcohol.. are you calling Gandhians and Congresssis low IQ bigots trying to impose their world view on others! Edited January 26 by coffee_rules G_B_ 1

It's when religion is used by politicians to gain and maintain power that these things happen. Religion as a personal thing doesn't cause any problems in a secular country.

Yes I would say any attempt at policing what people eat or drink is moral policing and does not belong in a democracy. Also I would love for people who push vegeteranism as a form of animal rights thing also to give up all animals products like milk, ghee, butter and paneer and become true vegans. The animals are kept in really bad condition and cows are forced to lactate non stop everyday of their life which is not good for them. Edited January 26 by New guy coffee_rules 1

I think there is a middle ground here. Rather than push for veganism, which may lead to protein-deficits, it may be best to push for (a) more humane treatment of food-providing animals (b) investment in cell-culture based milk and meat that offer the best of both worlds - cruelty-free animal products. This is a huge challenge as we have already seen bans by con-govts in the US based on unscientific claims. Edited January 26 by BacktoCricaddict New guy 1
Trichromatic Posted January 26 Author Posted January 26 I think it's not a religiously motivated decision, but an attempt to gain PR.

Same reason for which there are dry days on these days. Ideally govt should follow Gujarat model and put complete ban on alcohol across country. 14 January, Wednesday: Makar Sankranti 13-16 January, Tuesday-Friday: Maharashtra municipal elections (only in Maharashtra) 26 January, Monday: Republic Day

Agree, I’m against all kinds of supremacist opinions, vegans over vegetarians, vegetarians over non-vegetarians, liberals over non-liberals, conservatives over libertarian and all people who think they have a better world view or others like Scientologist ravishingravi, G_B_ and diga 2 1

Dairy consumption won't help an average Odia/Bengali as it would a Punjabi/Haryanvi. Most of our Haryanvi wrestlers are vegetarian but get their protein intake just from milk products.

Meanwhile their sick and perverted fathers harass Indians, whether it be diet or medium of language in schools. How is it fair that they restrict proteins for our mid day meals and impose Hindi, discourage English, do mandir-masjid whole day....while they do the opposite for their kids. At least Congressis aren't such hypocrites. Lord and Lone Wolf 2

But there is a difference between alcohol and meat ban. There isn't one health benefit with the former. While the latter is a necessity for the most malnourished population on the planet. Lord 1

Guess birds of same feather flock together. Official BJP accounts are doing this Lord and Gollum 1 1
