The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has confirmed receiving a proposal to host the season-opening match of the Big Bash League (BBL) in Chennai. A Cricket Australia (CA) delegation met the TNCA officials a few days ago to discuss the possibility of staging the BBL opener at Chepauk. It is understood that the TNCA has left the final decision to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

A highly placed official of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) revealed to Cricbuzz details of the discussions between the association and an Australian delegation. The delegation - comprising two representatives from the BBL and one functionary from the CA - was in Chennai late last week to discuss the plan.

"We have heard their proposal and are fully aware of our jurisdiction. The TNCA has left the matter to the BCCI. We have made it clear to the Australian delegation that without BCCI approval, the plan cannot move forward," a TNCA official said. The ball is in the BCCI court."

If approved, the match would be played in December this year. However, there have been no signals so far from the BCCI, which is understood to be taking a considered view of the overall situation before arriving at a final decision. The BCCI, it is learnt, had not reverted to the TNCA as of Tuesday (February 17).

I don't think the BCCI really wants the BBL in India

If its not clashing with IPL and a one off match why not do it for shi*s and giggles

December is monsoon month in Chennai, not the best time to host BBL there during that period.

retreating monsoon usually ends in November

It will become a regular feature if the Indian owners acquire BBL franchises.

It's probably the Indian owners themselves testing the waters to see the reception it gets.

They would make more money with exhibition IPL games in SGC and MCG and Perth.. will definitely be a full house

Could be good idea for BBL. They have been trying push bbl is 2nd best league for couple of years now with SAt20 and ILt20 being strong competition.

There were some chats that CA is also looking for IPL owners to invest like they have started in The100.

BBL get alot of local audiences on the ground for the games, there is no issue there but the issue now is it run in parallel to 2-3 other leagues so its hard to get top intnl players and top draft reserved for few intnl players only there is no such incentive for good intnl players to try for bbl.

They tried to get Pak players which does not bring much apart from few following on sm thats it and may be leasing the broadcast rights in pak.

CA has to work with bcci on this but not a bad idea. May be bcci ask for couple of warm-up games Including 1/2 ind domestic sides. May be side with 5 TN player and rest from other domestic side.

Perhaps their idea was to generate more TV audience by conducting the matches in India.

BBL teams without indian players playing in India will not draw much TV revenue compared to IPL teams playing one off matches in Australia

Ask Australians to collaborate with us on Cyber security and Electronic Warfare.

And I'd then even want BCCI to let our players to do disco dance in BBL for free.

You've clearly not heard about Dec 5, 2015 and vardha from dec 2016.

All the Aussies are having a meltdown after this news. They were predicting that the Boxing day test and Ashes will also be conducted in India in future.

We might soon see mid level players not picked at the IPL auction playing in all the foreign franchises owned by Indian businessmen.
