bsriharsha Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I'd still keep Abhishek Sharma in to open. He's been an abject failure but the batting combination after the tweak in the strategy is working. SKY is more of a liability at the moment. He's coming in at the most crucial position and he's been mid. Got starts but failed to make them count. The lower middle order can be flexible depending on the situation Abhishek Sanju Ishan SKY Tilak Dube Pandya Axar Bumrah Varun Arshdeep I don't know what can be done but we have some serious liabilities. Kuldeep will be taken to the cleaners if Daryl Mitchell gets in. NZ play better against us.
bsriharsha Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Arshdeep can probably provide 2 bankable overs. At this time, I'd keep Bumrah bowling 3 overs of the last 7.

I think combo of chakri and Kuldeep is ideal but our fast bowlers can’t hold the bat or field unfortunately And kuldeep and chakri can hold bat or field
bsriharsha Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Just now, straighttalk said: And kuldeep and chakri can hold bat or field Axar and Kuldeep make sense as well. Axar is going to get taken for runs but he contributes very well with the bat. Chakravarty looks bang average and a team like NZ has put us to the sword in various formats even in India.
Suhaan Posted March 6 Posted March 6 1 hour ago, Ultimate_Game said: Siraj is not a T20 bowler and is neither good at change of pace or bowling cutters. He's one of the most expensive bowlers in IPL and has never done much in T20s. Unless a spinner is very good you cannot bank on them in t20s now, pacers atleast can cause mistimed shots,I have already said Siraj isn't that bright with variations but Kuldeep wilts under pressure and NZ plays him quite better,Varun is already bowling medium pace,if he has to bowl up or full bowling half trackers is as good as not bowling at all
Gollum Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Mystery spinners usually have a steep decline once they are found out. Ajanta Mendis was scarier than Murali in 2008, then when we toured there again in 2010, he averaged 200+ in that test series. Guy simply disappeared by 2011.
Gollum Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Any other side, I'd say, play Kuldeep. Against NZ, I say trust pace and play Siraj.

He has the belief that he can play any spinner from backfoot. not just him but big guys like Tim David are all playing spinners on backfoot, they can wait to hit and on tiny indian grounds the spinners length has to be perfect.

Wankhede is perfect ground to do that. True bounce. Ball just nicely sat up for them. cowboysfan 1
Suhaan Posted March 6 Posted March 6 (edited) Bishnoi should have been sneaked in somehow for situations like these but then he's not in the squad even Good fielder, can qield as well now worked on his batting as shown in recent domestic Lois You cannot have binary rationale while selecting squad, there are inbetweeners who can give you moderate performances that's what matters alongwith other attributes they bring in,that is enough sometimes in world events Edited March 6 by Suhaan
Vk1 Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Ashwin had said this many many years ago. Rule no 1 for spinners in T20s - swallow your pride / take it on the chin and get ready You cannot be a spin bowler and have mood swings Suhaan 1

Kuldeep struggles against kiwis and Siraj is not a T20 bowler. Ahmedabad pitch will suit Varun a lot more than Wankhede.

Ahmedabad is a venue where you need to slow it down a bit.

The only change we need to make is replace Abhishek with Rinku. I really don't see Abhishek doing anything when NZ opens with McCochie and follow it up with Phillips. They also have Santner and Rachin who're bowling well. Against such a spin-heavy attack I don't see Abhishek doing much and better to push Ishan to open with Rinku at 7. We get a better fielder as well as a result.
putrevus Posted March 6 Posted March 6 (edited) in T20s, Chakri avg 33 vs NZ and has just taken 4 wickets with 8.2 eco. Kuldeep's avg is 21 vs NZ and had taken 9 wickets with 7.6 eco. This version of Chakri is giving hit me anywhere against all decent teams. I don't see how Kuldeep is going to be dropoff from Chakri. Edited March 6 by putrevus

His lengths are all bad and has been bad all tournament ,why are the coaches not fixing such a obvious error?
putrevus Posted March 6 Posted March 6 10 minutes ago, cowboysfan said: His lengths are all bad and has been bad all tournament ,why are the coaches not fixing such a obvious error? He is not a spinner who can rely on flight and turn to change lengths and dip. If pitch does not offer any grip, batsman can camp either on front foot or back foot based on his length. I don't think it is lack of trying from his side, it is his limitation.
