I reckon LSG, CSK did some blunders.  CSK used sarfraz so early.  LSG used Moshin as impact sub which did not allow him to bowl power play even though it was irrelevant, tactically a poor call.

Don’t they have a better impact sub like an allrounder

The base idea is same and simple for all the teams -- Load up batter while batting and load up bowlers and while bowling.

The issues only arise when batting 1st team loses too many wkts and have to call-up a batters while batting 1st.

Some teams are using their OS players as impact sub so they have 3 OS player in their starting 11 and then in 2nd innings they get that impact sub in. So rather having 4 os player in 11 they have 3+1 in 12.

right now there is no trick or tactics to it, it just look bad when team is not doing good and have to deploy the impact-sub when they didnt want to.

There should not be overthinking in the use of impact player. Either it is your 6th bowler or additional batsman being swapped, or a sub made intuitively based on match situation.

Impact sub should be a bowling or batting allrounder instead of a specialist. That will kinda keep the role of an allrounder alive.

Impact sub is about possibilities so should not be turned formulaic. Either you are swapping a batsman and a bowler for depth or making a substitution based on match situation.

Not true. Its giving yourself a defendable score and then trying to defend it with 5 bowlers

What I’d like to see is a bowling sub when all bowlers are smashed bowling first

You use it only when you are desperate and lose early wickets. So, it does result is losses more often

I still get it when you lose all your batsmen (like DC today), but what CSK did yesterday using impact sub after 2 wickets was idiotic.

Yeah csk was idiotic

but RR and RCB have already won this year from such situations. Ofcourse its not ideal but still gives a fighting chance to the team

RCB is the one team that beneitted the most because they were tatcially good with using impact sub like Venky iyer was used as a last option in one of the match.

yes. I think RCB probbaly would not have won the title but for impact sub. That suyash being used as impact sub won them a lot of games. Middle over choke.

As soon as top level allrounders starts appearing they will get that role, It will become a force multiplier.

Mi is not having a good season overall but they have pandaya there and if they were having a good season they would have looked a diff. team and almost looked like having 13 players playing in a game.

Teams does have allrounders, problem is they dont trust them as they are unproven.

For ex...MI has Bawa & CSK has Sindhu/Ghosh.

They are proper allrounders, hence you need to form a team including them in the XI, so that even if you swap batter with a batter during collapse or bowler with a bowler, your overall capability remains intact with both bat and ball.

KKR has used Roy and though not outstanding, he has provided them enough balance with both bat and bowl.

See my friends… srh dsnt need “impact batsman” top 5 will kill any teamm 95% of the time if one batter clicks. Feel bad for opposition.

Bhawa hardly preformed in what ever games he played in the domestic , Sindhu can not even hit 4/6 in domestic.

ghosh just came-up in the scene last season, issue is what the particular teams like and how they want o construct the side. Player has to be lucky to picked in the playing 11.

ex-- Ashok was sitting on RR bench last season they didnt give him a single, he is a near express bowler

Sakib has been with miultiple teams kkr.Csk etc no1 gave him a single game, saini was not picked in the ipl auction and he was drafted as injury replacement and plyed over tyagi and umran, brijesh who has not even played INd domestic gets to play 1st rr game in his 1st season where as Smat's hightst wkt taker is warming the benches.

CSk has urvil from last season, he is the most attacking Ind batter going by stats and records but he sits and Kartik plays.

So its not just allrounder its applicable to any1, have to be at right place at right time

A folly is to measure impact based on only results, which are dependant on a variety of factors. Many times, the impact sub is not among the top 5 batsmen or bowlers in the team.

A measured way to evaluate impact sub is based on tactics. Say a team went with one spinner but now sees the pitch turning, so if it brings in a spinner instead of a pace bowler after he bowls a few overs, it would be a tactically sound move. Now if the spinner bowls full tosses and half trackers, it does not make the tactic to field him in bad but the execution of the player.

I see V Iyer being discussed. Now if he was out on the first ball, many would have been like RCB made a mistake, it reduced depth from its bowling and so on.

Which is why most results based analysis actually hurt more than help a cause.

The issue is not all rounders but having quality all rounders

with teams batting till 8 or 9 and going from ball 1 and impact player rule, low quality all rounders are ineffective e.g. Stoinis i think can be a bonafide all rounder if no impact sub but now with imoact sub his bowling is not good enough

i can count on one hand decent all rounders

Batting all rounders (can give you 2 overs and batting at least theoretically) - pandu, NKR, Green

bowling all rounders (can give you 4 overs and some reliable batting) - marco jansen, overton, krunal pandya, will jacks, holder, axar

then you have all rounders on paper who can not give you 2 overs and reliable batting but just classified as all rounders on paper who can- jadeja, shepherd, dube, washy, narine, stoinis

In previous years you had bonafide allrpunders like watson, russell, albie morkel,
