He is a keeper-bat, so in that slot he is way behind. As a pure batter don’t think he will make it to the international side at this moment

in wk-batter slot for Ind in t20is -- There is sanju and Kishan , so the third slot is open and few months back kishan was not even the plans and sanju was losing his place to GIll+Jitesh exprmt.

Next in line wk-opner is Prab and who ?? so there is a slot fr taking

He is a powerful hitter and has the ability to hit some huge sixes. Next T20 WC is in Australia, which has some of the biggest grounds. It is important to have batsmen who can clear the boundary comfortably on Indian grounds. Those who are hitting sixes barely past the ropes will be found out on Australian grounds.

He is perfect for impact sub era where he can throw his bat around

Question mark how effective he can be in regular Xi when you to put bigger price on your wicket

Not going to last in those conditions. Par score will mostly be 160-190 with the odd 200+ game.

Effective today but what a tulla lol.

I felt similar a couple of games ago. He was just swinging the bat with brute power. Didn't look convincing at all.

Agree. Playing like slog overs of Odi or t20 match. That won’t come off every time

what is a hack in t20 cricket  ???

ppl were calling abhishek a hack too whn he started opening for srh took time for ppl to understand wht bat swing means and wht t20 bat swing is.

is Seifert a hack ,is Head a hack.

Not saying urvil is intnl quality of not.  but old school technique does not work in t20 cricket anymore, you can not have fast bat swing with that punchy kind of technique.

For big and fast bat swing batter need to make space between themself and the ball so that a complete swing can come through.

If a batter does not have the bat swing they either need to be have power game like Allen/pollard/Marsh kind of batters or they need to be proper 360 batters who can access all the areas

That is exactly what T20 needs lol We don't want these "low backlift" champions. I have shared this a few times. Urvil patel's balls per six in the SMAT is better than that of Abhishek sharma. His strike rate is only second after Abhishek. These are the metrics you should focus on. If someone hits a six every 4 ballls you should pay attention toh im. He lived up to that billing today.

On a serious note he is far away from hacking. He has insane bat speed. I don't think anyone has that kind of a bat speed. We have to understand what hacks mean.

How do you hack.. you hack horizontally. Have a horizontal bat and swipe across. Aaron finch, Tim seifert, Usman khan, Sahibzada Farhan, occasionally Glen Maxwell.  This guy's bat is anyting but  horizontal. Mostly comes down vertically. It is not hacking. It is elite ball striking

Hacks are someone who swipes across the ball every time. Usman Khan, Seifert, FInch are perfect examples.  These guys have proper bat swing. Comes fromup to down . This is not hacking

I didn’t  say he is useless. Hacks have a spot in T20 but he is as tulla as they come. No method to the madness. Just blind slogging

If you ask every single batsman for six Kl Rahul, Kohli and many technical wizards. They will look worse than Urvil as they don't have that kind of bat swing. These are special skills. It took 2  years for Abhishek to get to that level.   Look at washington sundar trying to hit six.Bat goes in one direction, hand goes in some other direction.  He looks lik e a proper hack. Look at Pandya against hard length. He looks like a total tulla as well.  This guy just swings through the line ball goes 90 plus meter. That whipped six requies insane amount of skills, bat speed. Not everyone can pull that off. Pandya kept trying several times. 80% of the time he oled out. I would take 5 urvil patels over 5 Ruturaj gaikwads lol

Its hard to say what is hack what is not in t20s, its what works spscially in last few years there are batter who are scoring at 165+ sr , you need something special to that.

batter has to aim hitting every 2nd ball for a 4/6.

This req. either massive power game or abllity to create your own lengths and using big and fast bat swing, to create the kind of swing batter need to create some space/room for bat to come through and any1 doing it will look like a hack when compared to old school of technique.

Posted this several time--- T20 batting is not much about technique but more about being effective --Ability to hit 4/6s to both pace and spin and ability to access both off and legside.

Usman the issue here is batsmanship, he can not play anykind of pace. And the other part why he looks bad is that he is playing with that making room and trying to swing is because he is been used in mo, let him open then he would not have to worry about 4 fielders out side the ring and he can play with control, now with this technique he needs to account for 2 extra fielders in the deep.

He needs to figure out his game just like Dube did. That might drop is SR from 200 to 170-180 but will add consistency.

There are other players ,ie Gaikwad for this role.

Yesterday CSK won the game because of Urvil 's batting.

Gaikwad can't bat with a high SR. To get into the Indian team Urvil will need to get to 30s more often. If he can do so, he would be a great addition to the team.

The finesse and elegant shot making of traditional cricket have spoiled Indian fans, many now struggle and confuse with different formats.
We should stop using the word hack to describe aggressive T20 batting. Just three or four years ago, these same fans were mocking players like kela and Rohit for their cautious approach on belter pitches. What did we actually gain by relying on'technically apt' batsmen in overseas conditions? It was only when Rohit embraced his new, aggressive approach which his natural ability demanded that Indias fortunes truly changed.
In T20s, we should let the ugly hoicks and slashes prevail there is no harm in it

the format has already become a batting shootout

Yes,but I would want more horizontal bat shots from him

That opens up more scoring areas and other lengths as well
