zen Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Most captains are formulaic. They go by what usually worked for them. Very few captains (or cricketers) think on their feet and make decisions as per the match situation, current form of players, conditions, etc. nevada 1

Even if its doing basics right people struggle to do it under pressure. Thats why Rohit and Dhoni won so much with as middling teams rollingstoned and New guy 2
vvvslaxman Posted May 11 Posted May 11 FOr the record Stoinis was the captain today lol Iyer was not.

But is that all? If there is one surface that suits Jansen perfectly that is this surface. Why did they bowl filth and got smashed by out of form Axar patel. Apart from Arshdeep nobody made any impact. Punjab lost with an over to spare after taking 4 early iwckets. ENtire season pedigree bowlers were travelling. Even Arshdeep was travelling a lot this season. ER of PK bowlers Ferguson 12.25 Bartlett 11.29 Jansen 10.04 Dwarshuis 12.75 SToinis 12.51 Chahl 9.53 Vyshak 10.85 Arshdeep 9.92 Yash Thakur 13.75 Shashank 7.80 Intersting Harpreet is the only decent bowler with decent ER 4 overs 25 runs. Why is he not being backed. Even Chahal is a risky one against Axar patel. Not because he will hit him better. BEcause of thin air ball travels faster here. Even mishits goes for six easily. WHy is the bowling sucking overall compared to others
Ultimate_Game Posted May 11 Posted May 11 Dropped catches have cost them 2 games out of the last 4. That's the bigger problem than Iyer's captaincy though I agree that bowling out Arshdeep by 15th or 16th over is not ideal. He should've saved Arshdeep for the death but so many dropped catches is a bigger concern.

The same Dhoni got exposed with Indian t20 teams where his tactics got exposed qwhile in CSK he had very good team overcoming his tactical issues. Iyer won with KKR where they had Narine and others. Punjab has no dependable bowlers other than Arshdeep. You need go to bowlers in tough spots. Edited May 11 by putrevus

Those days pitches were far better for bowlers too. But I never saw Pandya or Pollard bowling last overs with Malinga, Bumrah bowled out Or not using spinner at all. CSK always had mid attack still won. Even someone like Bollinger turned into a hero
