This is the starting formation of different teams today

 

Brazil had 4-3-3  (attack & possession) formation against Japan   3-4-2-1 counter attacking & rigid defense

Germany 4-2-3-1  (balanced)  vs Paragua  5-4-1 ( extremely defensive)   As an under dog it makes sense. They pushed to penalty shootout

Netherlands  5-4-1 (extremly defensive) 4-2-3-1 (balanced)

 

When you start like that that means you are scared of the opposition. It makese sense uruguay was scared of germany.  Not netherlands.

It had been A boring World cup till yesterday's 3 matches which absolutely Lit the World cup.

Paraguay I knew Would Trouble Germany and might knick a win ,which they did. 

Morroco also very stubborn and battlrd hard for their victory, Holland didn't Push enough for the 2nd goal and went Out Deservingly !

But we need the Big Teams to win to make the Qf and Sfs interesting

An embattled Ronald Koeman said he will consider his future as manager of the Netherlands after they were eliminated from the World Cup by Morocco.

The Netherlands tumbled out on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the last-32 tie, the pill even more bitter to swallow because they had been leading at the start of added time. Issa Diop cancelled out Cody Gakpo’s goal and, in a spiky post-match press conference, Koeman said he will decide whether to continue his three-and-a-half year tenure, which is his second in charge of the national team.

“No, I haven’t,” he said, when asked whether he had already handed in his resignation. “I’m going to reflect on my future. This is straight after a game and the disappointment is so fresh in your mind. I’m going to reflect on it and maybe I’ll come to a conclusion by tomorrow morning.”

Koeman came under fire for selecting a five-man back line and setting up a team that, for long periods, were content to operate on the break.

“You can think whatever you like but we gave away much less against a team that was stronger than [group stage opponents] Sweden and Tunisia,” he said. “If I had to do it again I’d do it all the same way. As the Dutch coach when the equaliser is scored I am always going to be scolded for the fact I chose five defenders.

“But you criticise, which is your right. You watch from the sidelines, I’m here with the team and, once again, I’d do it again.”

The Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi admitt

“We were taken aback by their formation,” he said. “When we saw it we knew they wanted to defend in a low block. That’s not usually how they play and we had to adapt. I saw this type of play as a form of respect.”

 

Ouahbi’s team will face Canada next and are on course to face France, who beat them in the Qatar 2022 semi-finals, in the last eight. Expectation is rising that they can at least emulate their feat four years ago, when they finished fourth.

“Talk is cheap, it’s what we can do on the pitch that counts,” Ouahbi said. “The World Cup in Qatar changed the mentality of the Moroccan team. We’re unstoppable if we play the football we know how to play, but if we get things wrong we’ll go home.”

People always bring population in sports. Look at Germany. From 1954 to 1990 West Germany reached 6 finals  out of 10 winning 3 . The best team of Europe. After unification they reached barely 2 out of 9 winning only 1 . Not even best team of Europe

Italy and Germany suffer from an ageing pop. Look at the German team, by next cycle team will be mostly full of non ethnic Germans.

I am glad India is not wasting resources on football. Ultimately the best Asian showing is a semi in the World Cup cup in 2002 when hosts South korea had some very dubious calls. 

 

The futureof football is with west Africa (Nigeria Senegal, Invory Coat and Ghana have a median age of 18) and Western European nations with imports from Africa. Once these west african side reach a median age of 25/30 (Morrocco median age is 30) then they will seriously challenge after reaching critical mass. This remains the truth. They will be aided by imports from Western Europe. Look at Morocco, 4/5 key players all came through Eruopean system. Argentina will continue to be a force as the only overwhelmingly white team.

 

India should focus on cricket, hockey and 15-20 Olympic  medals. That is a reasonable return. Individual sports like chess can be a cherry on the top.

 

Enjoy watching football. Its a very good game to watch. I watch it. But its not our thing or an Asian thing. The number of world cups won by India and Japan are the same. 0. Will continue to be the case. China realised this long time ago and diverted resouces into winter olympic sports.

Its starting to happen with their rugby team as well. It remains majority white, but slowly same route as football.

This is true. People don't understand this. 99% of the Indian public don't play football. But 65% watch world cup football. Every  4 years boomers whine about India not taking part in the world cup.  Sure our soccer team will get rich just for participating.  Other than that we won't get anything to gloat about. By all means encourage those who wants to play. But there is nothing extra you need to do. Messi didn't really become messi due to Argentine government. He just played for 6  years in boys academy then moved to spain and join barcelona academy where they covered the expenses of growth hormone deficiency. I can't think of this happening from an Indian family which is fine.

Just curious,  Is there anything wrong with Ethinics playing for these countries? Why is this even an issue otherwise.

There is nothing wrong. But from a social engineering pov when does a national team simply not represent the population as a whole?

 

Qatar are at the WC purely based on ringers.

The samething is happening in Baseball and already happened in basketball.

 

Basketball teams till 60s and even 70s were dominated by white players.Now 95% players are black.

 

It is happening as we speak in baseball,it was again dominated by white players now it is dominated by Hispanic and latin players with some Japanese. Latin kids are more desperate and young black athletes are not into baseball as there are no baseball grounds in inner cities and the game has become too boring.

 

The samething is happening in Europe in football, the immigrant kids are more hungrier and more desperate.In some cases poaching is also happening.

 

Qatar's case is different, they will always be based on ringers as there is no immigration policy.
