My squad for SL test series:

Jswal

Malewar - has done very well in domestics..so deserves a chance

Sai S - is being given a good run and scored recently against SL A

Gill(cap)

Pant(wk)

Jurel

Sundar

Suthar

Gurnoor

Kuldeep

Boom

we have battting till 8.. and covering off spin, left arm spin and wrist spin with Sundar,Suthar and Kuldeep respectively..

Pace wise we have Boom and Gurnoor shud be a lethal combo..

Backups - KL,Siraj/Ashok,Jadeja/H Dubey

Am I the only one who does not see this guy as an international prospect. I don't remember any sustained domestic/IPL achievements from him - except for the odd flash-in-the-pan innings and a high dose of overconfidence bordering on arrogance. Why am I wrong?

Power hitter unlike Malnourished Patel and Sadeja + offers off spin which we need sometimes against opposition lefties decent 6th bowler second spin option to have in SA.

Only play 1 frontline spinner 3 genuine Pacers + Pandya.

Riyan solves the jigsaw Puzzle.

Acts as a floater to keep left right combo going as I don't want Kela but Ishan in middle order

Tentative first choice XI for now

Gill

Jaiswal

Kohli

Iyer

KL

Parag

Pandya

Rana

Kuldeep

Bumrah

Gurnoor

But additionally, these players should be rotated and tried out

Reddy

Axar

Prasidh

Arshdeep

Sai(backup for top order)

Punja

Anukul

Shedge

Pant

These 20 players, off the top of my head, should be priority and should be prepped for the World Cup

1 batsman , 1 spin allrounder, 1 pacer, 1 seam allrounder and 1 specialist spinner each will be cut for the World Cup XV depending on performances

Like this group and most of them are my choices too, including the backups.

But a few points ....

1 )  We need to develop one more new quick, bouncy pacer along with Gurnoor.

2 )  Harshit Rana is looking unfit. His extra weight is worrying me. Need to groom someone else.

3 ) Need to try another big hitting finisher with some bowling ability.

4 )  Pant is iffy in ODIs.

Does his record justify his potential though?

Which record?? I think has only played T20 cricket for India and did alright in few cameos.

Never got a consistent run either.

Vijay Hazare numbers are crap..  batters like ChaddiKal, tuk tuk Raj dominate that low quality tournament on roads.

Getting repeatedly injured as well.  Not a good sign.  Inconsistent pace.  Heavily relies on slower balls instead of yorkers.

Used to be a hit the deck Pacer but not anymore.

Prince is roughly bowling same pace as him.

Harshit was looking overweight and unfit.  Why was he rushed back ?

Prince went upto 145 k yesterday. Harshit's quickest was 142 k in Ireland.

Princ is skiddier. He hurries the batsman. I think  occasionally he slides down the leg.

Don't know anyone else

1- Even thiugh raw Ideal will be Tarmale..else Slightly lesser height..Kartik Tyagi,Ashok Sharma can be groomed too

2- Ashok,Mayank,Kartik Tyagi.. etc very early but lets see Money Grewal

3-Lets first find a good finisher..extra bowking can be delegated to top/middle order..

very raw so we will need to invest a lot and groom..Shedge,Madhav Tiwari,Mukul Chowdhary,Kartik Sharma etc

we first even need to see if tgey arent one IPL season wonder

4-if Kishan or KL doing keeping then we can try to groom any promising batter..

Riyan Parag can bowl too and senior to guys I mentioned in 3...I just need more match fitness and consistency from him..

he can offload bowling from our finisher if he is playing not as a finisher

Mukul Ch and Kartik Sharma can keep too

ODIs ....

Dube not working.

Harshit, if fit, would have been a good No.8 and 4th pacer.

Who are our other options ?

At 8, we need a bowler who can bat and not a Dube type batter who can bowl a bit.

Can we try Arshad Khan as backup to Harshit ?

He played for India-A in 50 over format recently and can bat a bit. Has lively pace and would add left arm angle.

Who are the other options ?

Please discuss.

ODIs ....

Can Abhishek Sharma be tried at No.6, in place of Washington Sundar ?

Much bigger hitter .... can hit pace .... can function as the 6th bowler.

Better to go with available option like Rinku or Parag. Both can bowl and terrific fielders

Rinku does not bowl in international cricket.

Parag is injured and probably not liked by selectors either.

Abhishek also bowls very less. Rinku bowled in T20 series in SL in 2024

Certainly can serve as a part timer

■  Abhishek

T20Is ...  7 wickets from 19 matches .. 28 overs bowled.

List A ....  41 wickets from 69 matches.

■  Rinku

T20Is ...  3 wickets from 45 matches .. just 3 overs bowled.

List A .... 13 wickets from 70 matches.

This is not even part time stuff.

Moreover, Abhishek's bowling looks better than Rinku.

Anyone new from top order will take time to adjust to this new position if he hadnt batted tgere in domestics..

I dont prefer but given situation Tilak could be a better bat and fielder than Washington..he bowls too as a part timer not sure about his numbers though
