Have you seen his run up? He just jogs. Have you ever seen Bumrah sprint even while bowling. You are confusing between ahtleticism and fast bowling. It can be mutually exclusive.  Krunal pandya from standing position could bowl at 125k. Bumrah's effectiveness is in wrist snap speed which is higher than most guys.

OK. So, what you are telling me is that,  sprinting is athleticism?

Speed, strength, agility define athleticism. what is your definition? DOn't say "bowling fast is athleticism"

Nabi might be useful in NZ. Can bat a bit as well

What happened to Akashdeep though. Totally off the radar

He is another injury prone bowler. He looks fit and he has the tools. But he has some back issues. Currently recovering from it.

He had back surgery - challenging recovery.

That's his action.

Hangargekar too has a weird action, but no one can call him unathletic.

Bumrah, isnt unathletic. He runs well, can bowl overs after overs and usually is a safe fielder. Even his running between the wickets is quick.

I have a feeling he has been instructed not to exert himself 100% in the outfield, i.e., no diving or sliding for balls. Prudent management of a precious resource.

Traditionally most fast bowlers do that. Courtney walsh, Srinath all used to bowl from the boundary instead of throwing.

True. And in those days, diving/sliding to save a boundary was not a thing. Now it is expected of most fielders. But someone like a Bumrah should not be doing it due to his high bowling value. Fair or not, it's just sensible.

Bumrah is an outlier we have to protect. But other bowlers don't have such excuses in modern cricket. You gotta be good in atleast 2 departments. Fielding absolutely no excuse. Cummins, Boult, Rabada all field exceptionally well. Chris Jordan is one of the best fielder going around. He has pulled off some insane boundary catches. Yesterday Archer was very good on the boundary in the 100.

I have seen a pattern, generally fast bowlers are better fielders in comparison to trundlers. Kapil Dev is an exception.

Kapil Dev, Javagal Srinath, Ajit Agarkar, Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron, Ashok Sharma, Mavi, Nagarkoti are usually good fielders

Shami, Bumrah, Zak, Prasidh, Gurnoor,  Sreesanth are safe.

Venkatesh Prasad, B Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, RP Singh etc were poor fielders.

Dont remeber where to put in Nehra, but he too was a poor fielder.

Bhuvi was quite safe tbh

Definitely better than Prasidh

I think he was safe in his early part of career.

After 2018, when he returned after injury, his fielding deteriorated big time. Last few years it was painful to see him, dropping catches here and there during key moments. Even his throw was weak and powerless.

I really need to look at the dictionary you are using my brother :) Maybe I'll learn a few things.

Athleticism or lack of athleticism has nothing to do with short and slow run up, and not bending while fielding. There is something called ' conservation of energy'. You can't be bowling that fast and for so many years, if you are not athletic!

As far as fielding is concerned, it's cardinals sin for a fast bowler to be bending, and giving their all while fielding. This is what the fielding and bowling coach would instruct him. To conserve and preserve his muscles. Maybe you have forgotten fielding efforts of most world class fast bowlers.

To bowl fast, apart from being athletic, and training mad hard, you need to have fast twitch muscles to generate that extreme pace, in excess of 145+. And these muscle fibres, only athletes will have.

No hard feelings, but there cannot be a single genuine fast bowler on earth who is 'NOT' athletic.

Where else you show ahtleticism lol I told Krunal pandya, shahid afridi from 2 steps could hurl at 130k.  You are basically saying "bowling fast" is athletic.  That will make SHivam Dube an athlete who has a 30 yard gingerly run up. Are you saying DUbe is as athletic as Steyn?

Are you shifting your goalpost? Going from athleticism to degree of athleticism? And it's funny that you are questioning the athleticism of international sportsmen. Yes, even Shivam Dubey is amply athletic. Go try to work out for 30 mins, the way they train. If you last 30 mins, you will be in top tier level of athleticism.
