You need a bit of variety in yor line up. Peak Shami,Ishant, Bumrah are the best combo. Don'tthink we will ever get that kind of combo. ALl could bowl all day. Then Thakur was bringing the ball in and out at 135k speed. Current line up bar Bumrah has no threat factor. We are assuming things. Disciplined batting unit like NZ, SA know how to wear these guys out render them impotent. It is not just trundlers. Australia looked impotent in WTC final. Also impotent against Bangladesh who outbowled them.  Ability to maintain the channel for long periods will be the key to success.

In a nutshell, according to you, we don't have sufficient high quality fast bowling personnel in tests now, like we had in the 2018 to 2022 period.

Agreed !

Which is why we need to bring in Gurnoor and co. ASAP.

And it has come to this because we wasted the end 2022 to mid 2024 period on trundlers like Unadkat and Mukesh.  And Kamboj after that.

If we are talking about tests not much damage done. Kamboj played one test based on hsi clock speed in practice game. But his speed was way down in the actual match.  We did play AKash deep. He won a test for us.  Unadkat played 3 tests upon return. 1 against BD 2 agianst WI. Nothing against SENA. So no damage there.  Mukesh played just 1 SENA test. Actually played a role in that test taking 4 for 56 . Most of the matches they played wer eagainst lower ranked sides. Against SENA we mostly played regular players except Gabba where we played  a bunch of rookies like Saini, Nattu, Thakur, Siraj (then a rookie). INdia's problem is not being able to exploit lateral movement on offer. Bengaluru test we got rolled over for 46 runs. On the same track we couldn't extract lateral movement. Same way in twilight conditions we got to bowl in the pink ball test where the bowlers are supposed to be the most dangerous. We could not generate lateral movement that Starc and Cummins got earlier. Our bowling is not a perfect bowling unit. IN uber helpful conditions we are wasting the ball. We are all hit the deck seam bowlers. There are certain conditions our bowling look inadequate.

It's about utilizing that time to develop high ceiling quicks.  That process gets delayed if a mediocre guy blocks that spot and then gets dropped as expected.

I don't see another high IQ bowler like Bumrah coming through. I definitely would love an Ishant sharma against players with faulty techniques these days. At this point i am not seeing anyone like Ishant from 2008 who was breathing fire agianst Punter. We just have to iterate everyone and see who stands up. More importantly who lasts longer. Thakur was also averaging in the early 20s at the start of his career. DIsintegrated later. Akash Deep looked okay for 3 or 4 years. Now we have lost him. Saini was also hyped for his 145k deliveries. Didn't last long.

Apart from Bumrah, who is irreplaceable, the current crop of young quicks have much higher ceilings than Ishant and co.

They have to prove at the highest level. Nahid Rana caught the world by storm. His test average is 36. Jury is still out on everyone. India has to focus on a UNIT. Not one or two bowlers. 4 quality fast bowlers. Any team that had that did very well. I don't see such potential yet.

No one can prove anything if they don't even debut.

Prasidh Krishna did get chance. Looked pedestrian in SA where he is supposed to enjoy the bounce. Then leaked runs left/right/center in ENgland.

harshit rana is the highest ceiling player tbh.

Agree. He is the one guy who has the IQ. He is still bit erratic. But he has variations, attitude. But he looks anything but a fast bowler. He gotta shed weight and develop his core strength and lower body strengh.

Few tidbits from the Telegraph article

Pakistan’s pace bowling has declined even more, both in standard and pace. From the country that specialises in military dictatorships has come a Test attack of military medium.

PCB should definitely release lowlights package instead of highlights which would garner them more views. :wp1:

And the fielding! What fielding? You mean the divings over the ball, the misfields, the two dropped catches, which would combine to make some lowlights package.

Fielding has never been Pakistan’s strong point – too many of the country’s cricket grounds have not had sprinkler-systems installed, because the money goes into official pockets, so nobody without a tetanus injection is going to dive – and it is a cast-iron certainty that it never will be, until there is investment in infrastructure.

How long did Ishant take to mature ?  7 years.  Umesh took 4 to 5 years.

Prasidh is bowling well from his 6th test.  Is averaging 21 in his last 3 tests. ER is down and accuracy has improved.

1 )   It is this approach which is a big impediment in establishing quick pacers, wrist spinners and stroke players ( who may take a bit more time to reach maturity )  In the social media age everyone wants quick results from match 1. Otherwise troll them mercilessly.

2 )   Not every quick pacer will do well. It will never happen. If 2 to 3 out of 5 pacers, who are tried, establish themselves, it is a fair rate.  Which is why it is important to give chances to every quick pacer the moment he performs for a decent length of time in any format.

I don't see Prasidh as a deserving candidate either but in the name of extracting lateral swing we can't waste a series or years on guys like Bharibojh, undikatta,Aquib,Boobie types

They are pseudo swing bowlers who will do zilch with anything other than SGs(even that is rare, when it matters)

He is already 30 yo though. We can't wait that long. Young pacers need to be brought in.

Harshit needs to come back too. Can bat at 8 in NZ tour

young, pace, hit the deck, batting skill. can be a very good number 9.
