Iconic Indian Players in Overseas Tests

Below is a list of Indian players who have stamped their impression on the opponents in overseas test series (1 player per country) through their iconic performances: 

* Australia - Pujara 

* England - Mankad … all-round performances with iconic events such as the Mankad Test named after him

* New Zealand - Pataudi … through his iconic association with the 1968 series where he used the spin quartet to give India its first test series win in NZ (the first series win in SENA) … also the captain who made Indian players confident, which carried through to help India register its first series wins in WI and England as well a few years later in the early 70s

* Pakistan - Sehwag 

* Sri Lanka - Sehwag 

* West Indies - Gavaskar

 

* South Africa - ?

India has never won a series in SA, so those kind of series defining performances are not there.

 

Virat stood tall against Rabada, Philander, Steyn, Morkel and was the highest run scorer in the series and also in the match we won.

 

He also never averaged less than 40 in any tour of SA.

 

So its either Virat or Laxman. Siraj gets a shoutout too.

Vengsarkar in England - three consecutive centuries at Lords, top scored in difficult batting conditions and was instrumental in India winning a test series in England in 1986.

Kohli can make it if we add captaincy to the mix too as he likely went to SA to win the series (rather than hoping to only be competitive), playing 5 pace bowlers too iirc in 2018, dropping the legacy of fitting in a spinner in the 11.

That is my memory besides capetown partnership between Azhar/Sachin which we lost though. We hardly played enough tests in a series. Also overly bowler friendly. No single individual did well in every single tests tostop the opposition.  Strauss has a 600 plus series in SA and they won the series. Hoggard 26 wickets or so . Strauss won MOS. Same way warner made 3 centuries, 2 fifties in 6 innings won man of the series. Also Mitch johnson took 22 wickets. But guys like Lara made 500 runs they still lost 0-3.

MSD 0 overseas centuries (I think he might have something in Bangladesh or Srilanka)  but always brought  up as alternative to  Gilchrist etc  now beat that iconic deception.

Outside India in tests, MSD has a 100 in Pak. I think people may have overvalued his LOI performances to transfer the ability in tests.

 

MSD is iconic for his lunges, and for battling out a draw with a 70 odd in England iirc.

Made a 90 in England i think. There was a match where he made 87 or so.. second highest was 11 or 12.
