“That match which we won against India in 2021, that damaged us a lot. Because after that victory, players started to think that they had achieved something big. They couldn’t understand what they had to do next. When you are performing well, you should stay humble. If you behave with your collar raised, and get disrespectful, problems will arrive. And a lot of them have arrived in Pakistan cricket,” Yousuf said in a conversation on Samaa TV.

 

“Everyone in the team was trying to become the captain of the Pakistan team. The consequences are still hurting Pakistan cricket. Look at all the cricket Pakistan has played in the last four-five years, from ODI World Cups, T20 World Cups to Asia Cups and Champions Trophy. There has been terrible cricket. The PCB has been supporting you throughout. So many coaches have come and gone, so many things have changed just to try and help the Pakistan team. But no player has stood up and taken responsibility. Eventually, PCB had to take a step that it did. I back what PCB did,” he added.

And that 2023 Asia Cup completely demoralised them. Before the tournament started there was so much hype about their pacers and after the 1st match which was washed out after our innings, most Pakistanis still believe they would have chased that 260 odd score on a helpful pitch.

 

And in the Super six match, Rohit, Gill and Kohli, KL with their centuries completely brutalized them with their stroke play.

 

The next reality check came in the world cup and then in the T20 world Cup match is US where they couldn't chase 119. Most Pakistani players cried that day.

It's as if they would have won frequently if they didn't win the 2021 game. Even ireland defeated us recently so things can happen.. if you play 25 games in a 5 year period you are bound to win 3/4 games.. that doesn't mean you can think of India as arch rivals. No. Admit that your team and your nation as a whole have become bikharistan. Things might improve if you accept the facts.

One player Shaheen Afridi's injury sealed Pakistan's fate.

From Bowling in 2021 seaming 148k rockets to trundling a year later to mid 130's and now mid 120's.

That guy's downfall coincided with Pak cricket getting finished.

Not about Shaheen...he was always a mediocre pacer...will bowl fast for first 2-3 overs and then trundle all the way.

 

Teams like Australia manhandled him multiple times, India as usual starts slow and takes a lot of time to adjust and adapt. Once they recognized that he is just a one trick pony...it was all over.

Shaheen found out that's what happened and Kela was so meek he to take on him

Shaheen had 3 year peak where he was genuinely good as a young pacer from 2019 - 2022(early phase)

I remember watching him even in tests and he looked good bowled with heat and early 140's spell with red ball.

 

Pakistan haven't produced even a talent of his calibre since then which itself wasn't earth shattering beyond T20s.  Naseem was always average one trick pony and very unfit.  Rauf tepiya was strictly T20 merchant.

Wasim Jnr only knew how to bowl with older ball.

 

Right now they don't even have that level Pacers.

They got completely carried away with that Toss20 win and made superstars out of barely above average players like Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen. 

 

They got the World Cup monkey off their backs but went into self destruction mode.

It is more than that. Given that IPL is not accessible to Pakistanis they ended up playing in far too many random leagues and essentially everyone became 4 over bowlers. Fast bowling standard declined rapidly. Longer the format worse they became. Pakistan team always looks for short term solution.  So  industrial fans influenced pitches gave them temporary deflection from criticism.  2017 win probably caused more damage to them.

This is over-similification of the situation.

 

Pak team has not been good in test for sometime now, even in Odis they have not be there. though there is surge in the ranking time to time but that was the result of playing vs b/c/d level sides and mostly surge came in opposite cycles like when t20i wc was near they were doing well in odis and when odi were near they were doing well in t20is.

 

Pak was no.1 ranked t20i side during 2017-2020, this was when teams were trying to prepare for Odi wc -2019. And pak team does not looked like a good team in that wc.

Then in 2023 Pak were no1 Odi side think It was playing mostly b/c side.

 

Pak teams downfall started as someone correctly posted with Shaheen's downfall after injury. There is when even developmental team got better coming up with plans vs pak.

  

Shaheen was main factor for Pak being good during that short time of 2019-2021 t20i cycle. The batting was always underperforming.

Take GT as example if they do not have the bowling their batting has nothing in it. Both Gill and Sai can play at their own pace and build-up innings as they like because there are not many good batter and they know their bowling can keep up with low scores. 

 

It was same game plan Shaheen was 1 trick pony but was a v.good trick and worked eachtime. LA angle searing yorkers  145+ kmph its hard to face, he was ensuring a wkt in his 1st 2 overs and then bowlers like rauf can work as enforcer with high high pace and pace change, opp having already lost the wkt in pp does not want to take charge on a bowler who was bowling 145+ kmph and at the same time can bowl a slower one at 120 kmph.

 

Once Shaheen got injured it all fell apart. The batting didnt have it in them to out bat opp. they were already scoring sub-par scores and bowling was doing the heavy lifting and now bowling is not doing well, batting had nothing. Opp. understood that they put them under-pressure , as opp you do not need to do much if you get to bat 1st score at high rate in one of the few games and show pak that they need to compete at this scoring rates, so pak batting was under-pressure that they do not have that kind of batting to chase totals. Then they were under-pressure to score big and quickly when batting 1st that too dint not work due to batting having nothing in it. In simpler words batting has already given up even before the match started and were relying on bowling to get opp. out at lower score which was not possible.

 

This was one part next is Pak kept on recycling same players specially bowlers and that was due to stardom they got beating Ind in T20i wc and in Asa cup. It never happened that pak recycled pacers over and over again, as soon as they lose prime they were slotted out with newer pacers.

 

The large part is recycling of low potential players over and over again.

 

And test in non-starter as pak boars and team are not intersted in test for a longtime

A young down and out Indian team turned it around against a far superior Australia in Kolkata and then in natwest final. You build on such wins not use them as excuse.

Wow....just wow.  Check this interaction between a former captain and a very prominent cricket journalist.  They are seriously discussing if someone planted Hesson as an agent to destroy Pak cricket via his IPL links.  

 

Dhurandhar movie must have left a serious impact on them.  I have heard conspiracy theories before....this is the most ludicrous of anything I have heard in my life.
