EnterTheVoid Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Balakrishna movies should be used as an interrogation technique to extract information from terrorists Seriously, why not? We got noise pollution (seriously, the decibels in his movies are out of control; one moment you can't hear anything and the next moment, its as loud as a jet flying over your house), air pollution (his dimwitted supporters come in drove to wolf whistle / cheer at every freaking scene), logic pollution (One Balakrisna movie encapsulates more or less 30 odd years of the most illogical, common sense defying acts you'ever seen) Seriously, this guy does to movies, what Jim Carrey does to comedy, only difference being that Balakrishna movies turn out to be unintentionally while Jim Carrey still sucks at the one thing he claims to be good at
Willow_on_fire Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Man have to say that without artistes of the likes of Kamal Hasan etc South Indian movies are plain ridiculous- not because of how they are made but because of how succesful they become even after such awful presentation with overweight, overaged actors doing plain ghetto acts with awful technical direction Rajnikanth can actually act but his fans rather line up to see him twirling cigarrettes and doing gun tricks. I admire Kamal hassan for sticking to his acting skills rather than succumb to crap acts to please such a cheap fan base!!! so true.
fineleg Posted January 23, 2009 Author Posted January 23, 2009 Kamal is in a totally different level. Rajni has a lot of style and has done some good roles, but some of his eccentric stunts are "required by audience". Newer actors are emerging in South, and some of them pay attention to acting skills which is good to note. But "commercial success" still goes to cra.ppy action movies which is sad.
THX_1138 Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 To all the Mithun haters... when the foretold apocalypse does come, and the hour of judgment and reckoning is at hand... there will be only groups of people on this earth: Mithun fans... who shall be judged to deserve a place in heaven, and then there will be the Mithun haters... you who shall know the lord's vengeance when he lays his hand upon thee.

Lurker Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Just about any scene of Gunda is a great scene. :two_thumbs_up: It is the epic, as far as I am concerned. Every scene was stellar, every actor was at his best. I am reminded of the scene where Lambu Atta(a big time villain in the movie) locks horn with Bulla(another villain) and the gangwar ensues. Bulla finally corners Lambu Atta and is ready to kill him. Lambu proposes, and I put this mildy, to become his pimp and supply him girls so Bulla can have fun. He even offers to be his Trojan(not the horse kind) to avoid Aids. Bulla was shocked out of his wits. I was too :winky:
Ram Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 I am ashamed to have been once part of an audience that entertained such trash. For me, the worst part of Indian movies is not the super-hero fights and action scenes( as much as it is totally unbearable), it is that they totaly misportray human sentiments and emotions. I mean, which lunatic brother will reel out one senti dialogue after another, when his sibling in his bleeding from a gun wound and in his death-bed? Worst, in the 80s and 90s, especially in Tamizh cinema, we had this nonsense of Elder Brother -Younger sister sentiment. The family is typically poor and the brother works hard to get his sister married off and stuff. The way the whole thing was set-up, like as though the family's only priority was to get the girl married and get rid of her, is truly sickening. It just reinforced stereotypes that women are a burden on the family and they need not be as educated as men coz at some point, they're bound to be married off to another family etc. 99% of our film Industry runs on stereotypes and thats what makes it truly unbearable.

Don't forget the part where love is stalking a girl even when she says no multiple times, forcefully holding her hands, singing and dancing after her, till she realizes her folly and loves you back. With the huge problem of eve teasing in India, one would think that this aspect would not be shown as a positive thing. But even in the very recent Ranjhana, the stalking aspect was glamorized as being a part of true love
CSK Fan Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 This scene from Singham En_8UgGZXio Here is how cracked describes it http://www.cracked.com/article_20076_the-7-most-hilarious-foreign-twists-common-movie-clichC3A9s.html In the Hindi film Singham from 2011, the titular Singham is a cop who also plays by his own rules, and by that we mean he's a pulsing ball of radioactive crazy operating with all the subtlety of a sack of howler monkeys. After he receives a mysterious transfer notice to the nearby city of Goa, he decides that something doesn't seem quite right and begins to investigate. "INVESTIGAAAAAAATE!" Spurred on by the screaming lions in his mind, Singham discovers that all of his fellow police officers in Goa are in the employ of a gangster he once crossed paths with. Enraged, Singham decides that the only way to fight police corruption is with more police corruption, and heroically starts forging charges, coercing confessions at gunpoint and eventually just straight-up executing a suspect because he doesn't have enough evidence to arrest him. And if that all sounds like standard maverick cop stuff, let us introduce you to this scene. Singham, in the middle of a high-speed pursuit, swerves into the path of the fleeing criminal and simply steps out of his car mid-fishtail ... ... to fire a single bullet ... ... detonating the other car's front tire and sending it flipping through the air. As the car tumbles over his head, Singham reaches up and snatches the guy out through the window into a pavement-splitting choke-slam (as an added bonus, watch that clip and try to count all the people without mustaches). Dirty Harry would've powdered his shinbone just trying to step out of the fishtailing car. He's also totally going to write that guy a ticket for not wearing a seat belt.
CSK Fan Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 BTW, the answer to the bolded part is zero. Zero people without mustaches. It's like dying and being in heaven
Sooda Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 ^ Ridiculous to think that was made as recently as 2011. Bruce Willis does the same thing in Red minus the all important snatching the guy out through the window into a pavement-splitting choke-slam - which I guess makes it quite a bit more believable but still theres an element of double standards if we dont puke at a smiliar thing happening in a Hollywood film
SLICKR392 Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 :P Tamil film industry != South Indian. Telugu film industry and the malayalam one exists too, both of which have terrific actors and directors. Mammooty has won so many national awards - its unbelievable. Mohanlal, Shobana (perhaps all unrecognizable names) but are excellent artists. BTW, Shobana's action in Manichitrathazhu makes both Vidyabalan's (in Bhool Bhulaiyya) and Jyothika's (in the Tamil version) look like a joke. K Viswanath, Balachander, etc. are all some awesome directors who have come up with excellent films in the past. Shekhar Kammula, Bala (from Pithamagan), etc. are also a few of the excellent ones today. Their performance was an insult to Shobana.

SLICKR392 Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 There are tons of movies in Hollywood such as- mega shark vs giant octopus, snakes on a plane, mega Shark vs crocosaurus, sharktopus etc.
