spectre Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 inside politics to have irfan out but yusuf in?? hahha.. funny stuff.. no politics, both are cr@p, Irfan was given innumerable number of chances to comeback strong in his bowling, but he proved he is agmark cannon fodder Now Yusuf is given a chance after his exploits in IPL, Team management hoped he can apply his mind and play the longer format, but he doesn't have any So, both should be done away for good, unless they really prove their worth in domestics and come back stronger

arkay Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Yusuf Pathan should consider himself extremely lucky to still hang on. Unfortunately, we cannot drop him - as we don't have a reliable bowler who can bowl 5-6 overs. I definitely think - we should bring Abhishek Nayar in place of Virat Kohli. He brings more maturity and would be a reliable no.7 batsman. What can we hope from Pathan? Promote him in the order, probably 1-down or 2-down and ask him to play his natural game. If he still does not succeed, replace him with Amit Mishra as he is a better bowler than Y.Pathan
coffee_rules Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Nuwan Kulasekara (rhb) 56 55 In the other match a #8 is chasing more than run a ball. This is what is expected of late-order. YP is not for #7. He can probably come at #8, we need to get either a regular batman for a medium pacer or a regular bowler for a medium pacer.
Bumper Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Yusuf Pathan can never be counted on to pull off chases of the last 15. A more realistic expectation form him is a 20 ball 30. Thats what he is in the team for. I would give him the role Shahid Afridi plays for Pakistan. Bowl 7-8 overs of spin & score 25 runs @ a SR of 100. Expecting hiim to deliver an IPL type innings is setting him up for failure. That said, you cant chase 300 without one or two big partnerships. With Gambhir-Dravid & Raina-Dravid we had two decent partnerships emerging, but they didnt last long. One of Dhoni or Kohli should have lasted longer. Thats where we lost the game.

Unfortunately' date=' we cannot drop him - as [b']we don't have a reliable bowler who can bowl 5-6 overs. Answer is SURESH RAINA He is a much better thinking bowler than the dart thrower Yusuf Do anyone remember the way he restricted Yuvraj and LadyJaya on total rampage in a match against CSK (IPL2) They were smashing every bowler and got the match close, but it was this guy who bowled such a wonderful spell to get the victory Wonder how could the same captain forget it now Raina could have done a much better job and broken that partnership HAD Dhoni given him a spell Damn he was bowling just darts at middle and leg, which those two were milking with ease
zubinpepsi Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 its still a mystery.. y raina wasnt given the ball.. he bowled a very tight spell in the compaq finals.. not givin a ball to raina is a retarted thinking by the kaptaan saab

Ram Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 He is a lost cause, at least for now. He has looked completely out of sorts for a while now. Yet, they persisted with him for the fear of making too many radical changes. The OP is absolutely right - a no.7 batsmen who does not know how to plan/construct an innings with 100 required of 15 overs has no place in the side. One big lesson learnt from this entire Yusuf episode - Just picking 7 batsmen on paper does not mean you have 7 batsmen on the field. But more importantly, we shouldnt simply jettison him at this juncture. We have seen enough of him at the FC/IPL/International level to know that he is capable of better things. He should still be kept in the frame of things.
rahulrulezz Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Give him one more chance... He is just too much of a special talent.. Can win matches all by himself..for some reason, he looks confused these days at the crease.. probably overcoaching or trying to prove that he can be a technical player.. he needs to play his natural game..the way he entered in Indian team... Yousuf is one of the best talent to come out in last 3 years after Gambhir.. Hoping that Dhoni will give him one last chance ....

Yusuf bowled better than Bhajji vs Pakistan, Dhoni acknowledged that in the presentation speech too, and good spin we will need badly tomorrow. But even if his career is done in ODI's I won't mind it. I was a fan of him until last night..where he was the last recognized batsmen in the lineup who needed to help Dravid make those easy 90 of 80 balls.

Tapioca Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 If your number 7 batsman cannot pull off run a ball 15 over chases he has no business in the team - this is not T20. There are not many places where we can use him. He can't play moving ball. He can't play really fast bowling. He can't play any of the unconventional spinners. That leaves the second change medium paces of the Collingwood variety and some spinners, but he doesn't get to face them in his batting position. Because of the presence of too many genuine stroke players in the middle order, he can't be promoted either. May be we should send him at No.3 if one of the openers fall quickly, hoping that some of attempted hits will clear the fielders. A 20 ball 30 at No.3 is better that whatever he does these days at No.7
King Tendulkar Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Y Pathan is pants. Another bits and pieces player who is neither good enough at bowling or batting. Another cr#ppy selction based on 20/20 lottery perfomances. We should only pick genuine class, not these Pathan/Jadeja bits and pieces cr#p
champ Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 we need to take actions rather than words.. the pakis believe nazir can be devastating and still living on his past few innings. we cant do that with pathan...no performance .. no place in team.. its time to change ..
champ Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 not sure about Irfan' date='he looks decent enuf.hes better than RP atleast n can handle the bat[/quote'] leave alone his batting and bowling which can improve . i would give him a yes just for his commitment and never say die attitude... we need ppl lik tat
rkt.india Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 RP is a jogger, does jogging while bowling
cowboysfan Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 watch yusuf smash the aussies on patta indian wickets.he will be retained just for that.
