Astrology/Jyotishi - How real/accurate is it, if at all.

I have not read that book, but I know al koran was a famous mentalist, mentalism is one of those things which takes a lot of practice, but can and is done by a lot of magicians who actually accept, that what they are doing falls in the realm of explainable and known stuff. One such famous person currently out there is Criss Angel (I dont like him much for his shenanigans but he has very good integrity, so I do respect him for that). Can you give me a brief overview of the book?
Al Koran talks a lot about the power of thought/persuasion in this book. Stuff like if you believe in something sincerely enough, it’ll eventually happen (he talks about how a lady wanted to a piano, but couldn’t afford it. So, she started pretending as though she already owned it. She would ‘play’ it everyday, ‘clean’ it [All in her mind, of course] and one fine day, a gentleman popped up on her door-step and told her he was going to dump his old piano, but as he was passing this house, he felt someone there needed it..). Al Koran also gives lots of anecdotes similar to these. How much of it is verifiably true? I dunno, but its just another point of view for you to consider.

Something similar to this book then "Secret" or something like that? MM the problem with anecdotes and these kind of claims is tht they are not falsifiable nor are they really testable because they have numerous outs, for example if someone else belives and wants a ferrari, and after a long time they dont get it, the out is "he/she didnt want it badly enough" or something similar. That line of argument is very unfair when someone is making a huge claim. Do you know or heard about the JREF million dollar challenge?

James *****, was a very famous stage magician, who started this organization called James ***** Educational Foundation. The organizations goal is to test and validate any kind of paranormal claims. They have a running million dollar award for any individual who can prove a paranormal claim, like for example "predicting the future" under agreed upon protocols before hand. This challenge has been around for more than 2 decades now and nobody has won it. http://www.*****.org/site/index.php/1m-challenge.html If you are interested browse their message boards, lots of real heavy weights come and visit there not only related to skepticism but also other science and technology discussions. Obviously there is a very strong atheist presence there, so just a warning before you or anyone else visits there. P.S. that guys name is R a n d i the filter is capturng it hahahah

I believe in it... THe point is you need to know how to use it.... As for other topics, not sure how to discuss those things.. I hate to convince people of what they dont believe...We all have our freedom and we should do what we believe in.

I am not just making up stuff from nowhere. There have been several instances of people having premonitions of what is going to happen in the future or ESP (Extra Sensory Perception). So' date= this ability of the mind to foretell the future isn’t a skill straight out of a fairy-tale movie. It happens frequently, in real life. My point is, there are several things about the human brain that neuroscience has yet to give definitive explanations for.
There have been several sightings of UFOs too. :hysterical::hysterical: There have been several sightings of bhoots/ghosts too if you believe random people and their "eye-witness" accounts. The point is, whenever such psychics or people who witnessed such stuff or whatever are put under scrutiny, in the end it all turns out to be a big ****ing :fail: Human brain can do a lot of wonderful things which may not be explained very well. But one thing it damn sure can't do is predict the future with any credibility. Thats against every law in nature.

Astrology. :motz: Damn, it a money minting business. You can sell books, run a website, even release a video game. Seriously Nintendo has an "Astrology" game. :cantstop: It's a study on how the stars or star alignment affects the past, present and future, and of course even daily life of human species on a weeny tiny planet that's a million light years away from it. No matter how the stars align in space, there is someone born every goddamn minute.. And the stars will give them a very bad advice. :(( The mother of all shockers? Bombay HC once told, Astrology is legit :hysterical: http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2011-02-03/india/28356472_1_astrology-advocate-for-maharashtra-government-dattaram-kumkar I guess if it goes this way, there may be some guy demanding a girl to sleep with him, because the astro says so and it's a fact :giggle:
