phaedrus
well, he can blame noone but himself. he got the chances and he didnt make it count. in this whole series he looked out of place, that too against west indies. he should still make good money with CSK. Link to comment
Sidhoni
Sadly, Yes ::(( He should have been given a chance in the 3rd test. Link to comment
Texan
Sad to see such a talented player who toils in domestic circuit to get shelved because he doesn't have the contacts that Kohli or even Roshit Sharma has in the team management/selectors. I hope he gets another go in TESTs soon, even if its just for 1 year. I'm sorry, but I don't think he has much talent. He is fit for bullying domestic bowlers on flat tracks. He was found out by SA bowlers bowling in India and also found out by mediocre WI bowlers in ODIs. Not good. Badri story needs to end. Indian team is a tough place for batsmen to get into and with the kind of lack of technique shown by Badri, he doesn't deserve another chance. There are too many others waiting in the wing. Next please. Link to comment

Straight Drive
Badrinath was a prolific Ranji player. He had to wait a lot due to lot of prolific batters rather star players in Indian test team. He did get to play against SA but then dale Steyn was at his best in Aisan conditions. Link to comment

Plenty of opinions at the time that call out Badrinath's inadequacy for the int'l level. Only strengthens the argument that Vengsarkar made the right call. Link to comment

Straight Drive
Definitely not a ODI player. He excelled in Ranji format. Those days the SMA trophy was not there. I say that because T20 itself was nonexistence. T20 used to be played only at club levels. Don't recall him being good in domestic 50 overs tourneys. Link to comment

vvvslaxman
8 year old thread :) wow. Not many rated him. Rightfully he was kicked out. But there was no injustice to Kohli as Vengy suggested. He earned his selection through consistent domestic performance. He was found. He was discarded. End of story. Vengy unnecessarily is stirring sh*t. The Dark Horse and Vilander 2 Link to comment

He just said kohli should be there in place of badrinath since he had vision for future unlike Shrinivasan who was more interested in picking his man and proved it by removing Vengsarkar. If chew$?@kar says Badri was selected because of CSk and he lost his job because he did not want to select him what does that mean? It means vengsarkar thought kohli could be a better pick than him based on potential he had seen in kohli. Not that Badrinath did not deserve to make into Indian team. Players are not picked by number crunching only. Allegations of CSK quota comes because Srinivasan jumped into it for no reason. It is selector's job to pick a player based on his understanding. Why was he not allowed to do his job. Why did Srini interfere? Was he selector ? Wasn't everyone questioning Mayank Agarwal's selection issue and selectors had to say that he is in the queue. Don't think anyone was hell bent on moving Kohli out. So instead of appreciating performances of Badrinath, what does former selector comes up with? Badrinath was just CSK quota pick and pretended he didn't deserve a chance. Right now it being made case of nepotism which it isn't and Vengsarkar was not sacked for not backing him. He chose to let selector position go away for MCA position which was more valuable to him. Vilander
Averaging close to 70 and hitting 80 plus in a season is not number crunching it's breaking down all walls and getting selected. Now if he chose not to be a wasim Jaffer who got more chances than Badri BTW, that's his choice. Badri is happy playing tnpl good for him at least he has an ecosystem to keep him going. It is unprofessional to insult a player who came through ranks by putting up consistent domestic performances. You cannot say after 8 years when he reached his peak and claim credit. Let us not forget Kohli's first stint as test batsman was a failure too. It took a while before Kohli established himself as a world class player He put in hours and hours of practice to sharpen his skills. For vengy to say that he knew all about this before hand is frankly laughable. Vilander 1 Link to comment
The Dark Horse
Why is Vengsarkar telling all this now? If he really lost his job because of that, he should have done the same after quitting. Now that Kohli is a star, he comes out of the woodwork to ride on the Kohli bandwagon. Tells you something about the man that he is. Vilander 1 Link to comment
