Not yet. But at 21 he has plenty of time. Also his batting style at the moment is suited more to the longer version but he did hit some aggressive shots today. No. I still dont consider him a good enough batsman to be an alrounder because people are seeing an alrounder in him. We need bowlers who can bowl that should be our first priority. He still does not have in him to play as a specialist bowler.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is slowly but surely climbing up the ladder as a fast bowling allrounder, the latest claimant to the position left vacant by Kapil Dev after he retired in the early 1990s. Manoj Prabhakar, Ajit Agarkar, Irfan Pathan – on the same path is Bhuvneshwar, the Uttar Pradesh youngster, who made his Ranji Trophy debut in December 2007 against Bengal. But it was only after the Ranji Trophy final of the 2008-09 season against Mumbai in Hyderabad, where he dismissed Sachin Tendulkar for a duck, that his name came into prominence. Uttar Pradesh lost that match, but Bhuvneshwar certainly made a mark. His performances for Uttar Pradesh that season impressed the talent scouting team at Royal Challengers Bangalore, who handed him a two-year Indian Premier League contract. “That was a big moment for me,” says Bhuvneshwar to Wisden India. “(Anil) Kumble sir believed in my abilities and backed me. He was the captain of the side and I learnt a lot from just watching him approach the game. That stint made me a confident cricketer.” His value to the Uttar Pradesh side was further established when he was given the new ball ahead of more established team-mates like Praveen Kumar and RP Singh. Bhuvneshwar, tall and lanky, relies on swing and extra bounce off the pitch, rather than pace. But it’s not like he is not looking to add a little zip to his bowling. “It is important for me to add a few yards of pace, but according to me that is not the only thing that a fast bowler should look into,” Bhuvneshwar says. “What is important is to keep learning all the time. I’ve been very fortunate to have had the right sort of guidance. Venkatesh Prasad’s addition to our team (as coach) has been extremely fruitful. He always has words of advice for me. I’ve also had the opportunity to interact and learn from Allan Donald. I think, so far, I’ve had the best possible help. It is now up to me to repay the faith,” says Bhuvneshwar. Donald is incidentally the bowling coach of Pune Warriors, for whom Bhuvneshwar now plays in the IPL. Apart from his bowling, Bhuvneshwar is also a handy lower-order batsman, a status he established when he smashed 128 to single-handedly help Central Zone pip North Zone to enter the Duleep Trophy final last month. The maturity that he showed while farming the strike with the tail was further proof of his talent, which till then had remained under the radar. “I would say the Duleep Trophy this year changed the outlook for me as a batsman. I did have the talent, but what that knock against North Zone gave me was belief. I am much more confident now, and every time I go out to bat, the team expects me to contribute, which is a good feeling,” he says. Bhuvneshwar has also played a crucial role in the ongoing Ranji Trophy fixture against Delhi in Ghaziabad. He consistently troubled Delhi’s star-studded top-order boasting of Virender Sehwag , Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli in the first innings. His inswingers, especially, caught Sehwag completely off guard. Bhuvneshwar, for his part, believes it is important to keep it simple. “As a bowler I don’t fear any batsman. If a good ball is hit to the boundary, I can’t do much. It is only the bad balls that I’ve to be worry about,” he says. Even on day three, when Delhi were trailing Uttar Pradesh by 168 runs, it looked like Bhuvneshwar clearly had a plan against the batsmen, admirable for a bowler who is just 21. “Yes, the plan was to just make the batsmen play as much as possible. I was just trying to angle the ball across to the left-hander (Gambhir), and that would bring the slips into play. It is about bowling to the field, and I was just trying to be consistent,” points out Bhuvneshwar. More recently, Bhuvneshwar was also a part of the India A squad that toured New Zealand in September. His recent performances have managed to get him into the limelight. What remains to be seen is if the new found attention only spurs him to greater heights, or weighs him down. Enough cricketers have fallen by the wayside trying to become the next Kapil Dev – Bhuvneshwar looks like the real deal, but the journey ahead, and upwards, is a tricky one.

Just don't diss at someone who doesn't meet your expectations of a bowler, there's more to new ball bowlers than the speed gun.

yeah I have been watching him Ranjis for last 2-3 years n he always did well.bats well too.hopefully now is a regular in our LOI squad
