desi pride 1234 Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 similarities: both teams got dashing opener- veeru and srikkanth. Technically strong openers- sachin , gavaskar. Gutsy and unorthodox middle order batsmen - mohinder , dhoni. Hard hitters yashpal and yusuf, Sandeep patil and yuvi. Got one outstanding bowler kapil and zaheer. Differences: they had allrounders like kapil and mohinder and their bowling suited to england conditions. This team don't have a proper alrounder and they gotta deal with part time spinners which is a big burden.
rohitsilhi Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 similarity- trundlers- madan lal and munaf patel difference- no weight of expectations in 1983 a world class allrounder in kapil dev 1983- excellent fielding unit with great physical fitness a captain who put the team first and not his bank balance
zen Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Whenever I see threads like this I see India crashing out of the tourney so :antijinx:
Mariyam Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Some glaring differences; we wore white in 1983. We will wear dark blue in 2011. Wills was our sponsor then. Sahara is now.
nballa Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 well the players who played in 83 are not playing in 11. so yeah glaring differences.
Sooda Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 well the players who played in 83 are not playing in 11. so yeah glaring differences. :headshake:
coffee_rules Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 1983 - Numbers add up to 21 which is the first and last digit of this year 2011. So, we win this year ....:eyedance: ....:headshake:...very lame...could have done better...:roller:
maniac Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 Similarities:1983:Sunil Walson 2011:Piyush Chawla...will not get a single game
urbestfriend Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 similarities: both teams got dashing opener- veeru and srikkanth. Technically strong openers- sachin ' date=' gavaskar. Even we had an allrounder in Sir Aggy. :haha:
jf1gp_1 Posted January 26, 2011 Posted January 26, 2011 difference or similarity will be clear once the final is over
Ultimate_Game Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 1. 1983 team had a much better balance which batted till 10 - Kirmani used to bat at #10 with only Sandhu as a genuine tailender!!! Our current team ha a tail starting at #8. 2. 1983 team had a bunch of medium paced all-rounders such as Madan Lal, Amarnath (not sure whether Roger Binny was there as well) with India's best ever all-rounder Kapil Dev leading the way. Current team has no genuine all-rounders to speak of and no medium/fast all-rounder. This is one area which hurts us a lot and I wish we can get 2003 version of Irfan Pathan back. Just imagine Munaf replaced by Irfan in the current team 3. 1983 team was a brilliant fielding team with literally none needed to be hidden in the field. Current lot consists of Munaf, Nehra, Zaheer and an unfit Yuvraj
Online Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 The thread title reminds me of a typical question we used to have in school Distinguish between A and B What are the similarities and differences between X and Y and we would draw a line down the middle making 2 columns and write 2 opposite statements on each side ahh those days :)
nballa Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 also add lack of expectations lack of reputation lack of endorsements lack of distractions lack of injuries lack of slackers lack of space fillers lack of non performing kupthaans eventually led them to concentrate only on cricket and winning, and played better. with the current crop of lard asses its the polar opposite.
