You are right for normal people protein requirements are low. Most non athletes do well with .8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. The protein requirement for athletes is approximately double that of nonathletes (1.2 to 1.7 grams per kilogram).Young athletes who have the combined demands of muscular work and growth require the require the highest amount of protein. couple of links http://www.healthline.com/hlbook/nut-protein-requirements http://www.exrx.net/Nutrition/Protein.html Sports nutrition is a evolving field and now most nutritionist say that eating large quantities of protein over longer period is actually beneficial.
200gms protein daily for a 75kg guy was an approx double the max amount that is recommended for an athlete.

great.... since when did aamir and asif become greats of the game? :hysterical::hysterical:
Aamer has barely achieved anything of note to be called a great. And he was barely crossing 140k in the Asia cup.

Great fast bowlers like Aamir,Asif 2 W's are born not made so India can do nothing about that. Fast bowling is all about hard work & attitude. In Pakistan, young fast bowlers work hard and bowl day in and out hence they get the results. When Asif had elbow injury he trianed hard and went to England on his won to train in clubs. This is what you call committment & hard work. Sreesanth,Sharma & Munaf were decent but they dont want to train hard due to lazyness. They have time for adds, reality shows etc but cannot spend hours in gym or training. Unless, Indian fast bowlers get over this attitude and work hard they will never average in early 20s in test cricket and bowl 90mph consistently. Also, they the logic of meat is flawed. Meat is a luxury is Pakistan and out of reach of lower & middle class.
Batting also requires the same amount of training as bowling. It isnt exactly easy, also requires a lot of skill. It involves less physical stress maybe, but it requires the same amount of time to be spent in the nets. So I find it to difficult to accept the argument that somehow all our current bowlers are lazy but batsman are hardworking and hence world class.

That is downside of it, that is why you don't find much technique in their batting.

Reading some of the posts here one would think the average Pakistani eats Haleem, Karhai Ghosht, and Murg Do Pyaza for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The price of meat in Pakistan is upwards of Rs. 200/kg. But I am sure they are all tucking into their Niharis so that they can bowl phaaaasshht. The level of ignorance here is just amazing.

You and your ignorant troll like posts. Asif and Aamer greats?you mean great cheats?while you miss out the name of Imran Khan. Asif worked hard during injury?you mean by taking steroids and getting banned for 1 year? Though i agree with the statement that Meat has nothing to do with FAst Bowlers.

This excuse of veg food istotally bull$h!t. We have almost equal amount of Muslims who eat meat and lots of Sikhs Christians hindus who eat meat as well. Biggest reason is Tapeball cricket. I was a trundler back in india but wen I came to Canada I started playing cricket with Pakistanis with tapeball and now I m the quickest among my friends. Other thing isthe interest in bowling. Last month I was playing a tournament in BAPSs mandir and the funny thing was- in practice session there were 20 ppl in line for batting while I was the only 1 bowling. These guys are hardcore cricket lovers. So one can see how much importance we give to bowling. Also wen I play with Indians and bowl a wide they all will tell me to cut my pace while with Pakistanis they will appreciate me to bowl faster. So ya there is an attitude difference ad well

the problem is there in the selection. i came from a small town and the small town boys like us cannot afford to join in any cricket academy. when i played for my college team, easily i was the fastest bowler in my college and i personnally wanted to be a fast bowler. but its just my parents didnt encourage me playing cricket and wanted me to be a software professional. now i am a software engineer in a multi national company and i do regret that i was not allowed and encouraged to be a fast bolwer. and when i saw this thread title i just wanted to share this. let me tell u guys, cricket is played with lot of passion in small towns and villages. the city boys dont try hard and they hardly have ground to practice here. sadly cricketers come through cricket acadamies and only some well reputed schools. i am sure there are lot ot of fast bowlers in india. its just the selectors dont go deep to the rural areas and find th real talent. i was thinking atleast the ipl would unearth some of the hidden talent of india. but ALAS!!! the news hit me few weeks back that the players can be selected from only the state cricketers. lol. my dream shattered. i am tired of this. comments like we are not strong, we dont play with tape ball, everyone likes batting in india are all bullsh***.

ever wondered why most pakistani bowlers come from their rural areas ' date=' northwest provinces and uneducated???[/quote'] That is true, many of them are hungry for success and ready to work hard because they dont have a plan B in life. Many of our cricketers hail from upper middle class relatively well to do families, and once they taste the initial success, they become complacent and the drive to excel decreases.

I think many people in India just dont encourage fast bowlers enough. Its difficult for pacers to get wickets on flat Indian wickets where there is not much bounce or swing or pace. So bowlers get hit for runs on a bad day and some days they have to try something extra to get wickets and they get punished. But they dont get backed by the captain and coach and ask them to try for wickets. Case in point is a bowler like Sreesanth. The other day he was hit for 24 runs in an over but he was not the first bowler in the history of cricket to do that but everyone was calling for his head. Broad was hit for 36 in an over but he was persisted with because he had potential and now he is one of the front line bowlers for England. Fast bowlers in India dont get encouraged like that. Inherently, we dont believe we can produce fast bowlers and whenever a pace bowler gets hit for runs in a couple of matches, he is immediately discarded.

simple, ghosshht khao, phhhasshhtt ho jao... but seriously, good points by desipride and bujji. although desipride you've to admit that playing tape ball cricket one is encouraged more to bowl fast than if playing with tennis.

You are opening a can of worms with that statement. My guess is that most of our guys come from upper middle class or rich families because of the 'ghoos' they have to khilao various officials in the BCCI hierarchy to get a chance to represent the nation. At least this is the case currently. The rags to riches stories are not as common now as they were say a decade or two decades earlier. I hope I am wrong.

You are. It is the opposite case most certainly. There are more Indian cricketers from small towns / modest families than earlier.

Isn't it ironic that you are mentioning Asif as an example of "commitment" and "hard work". So the same guy who has been caught for drug abuse, using steroids, smuggling drugs, match-fixing etc. is the shining light of "hard work" and "commitment" in Pakistan :cantstop: You guys simply crack me up :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:
