ganeshran Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 A lot has been said that Pietersen gets out a lot to left arm spinners and he is uncomfortable with the line they bowl. To confirm this I checked out the stats and it doesnt seem to be the case. Why is it then that he is called a bunny of left arm spinners? Is it because the number of left arm spinners is lesser than the right arm spinners and consequently he faces a lower number of balls? In ODIs Pietersen's most common mode of dismissal is against Right arm pace bowlers. He has got out to right arm spinners 19 times while only 16 times to left arm spinners. Even in the last 2 years the number of times he has got out to both left arm and right arm spinners are pretty much even.

In the last 2 years Shakib al hasan dismissed him 5 times in 7 matches. Highest number by a bowler against KP in the last 2 years. I am talking about all formats. Abdur Razzak 3 times. So in a short tour he earned a reputation of being bad against left arm spinners. Then Yuvraj thingy. Yuvraj has dismissed him 5 times. If you look at overall career of his he was dismissed 7 times by Vettori . 5 times by Yuvraj singh. 5 times by Suleiman Benn. 5 times by Shakeb, 4 times by Razzaq. Out of the top 15 players to dismiss KP 4 are left arm spinners. Out of top 16 players 5 are left arm spinners. To go with that he generally struggled facing them.

That's why he's opening in the world cup. So that he gets his eye in and settles down before spinners come on.

But the more important thing is he's showed' date=' like Sehwag, he can play maverick innings that [i']so few can. The latter is more important to me and also to the paying public who would rather watch him than a Kallis. In this aesthetic sense, he's already made his name as a genius. agree with this. :nice:
