Yes..i saw that match live and under lights, batsmen had no clue. He was generating some serious pace which UAE batsmen had never faced before IMO.

rkt.india Posted October 28, 2011 Author Posted October 28, 2011 @Jeffthommo VRV was quite quick in Eurasia cup in 2006 but by the time IPL came, he was plagued so much by injuries at that time, he was not the same bowler who bowled in 2006 and in that IPL, he was just coming back from injury. He could have gone even quicker but injuries have destroyed his career.

He was looking quite sharp. Honestly, i completely forgot about his talent and how sharp he used to bowl. Looking at this video, i remember that I actually watched these matches. But rkt, do u really think he has got any chance of making it to the national side again? He definitely has talent, the height and pace as well and the art of reverse swing, but he has to work hard a lot. He has the example of Ashish Nehra. If Nehra can, he can too.

Frankly speaking he is more than 30. :winky: And he is lazy too. He has to reduce some weight. But, yea I am curious to watch the upcoming domestic season. And I can guarantee you people that we are going to get some more fast bowling talents in the upcoming domestic and IPL season. Most definitely. :two_thumbs_up:

I am pretty sure Punjab has no dearth of tall n athletic ppl :)

Punjabis are healthy definitely, but let me tell you few factors why you are not seeing any speedsters from Punjab. 1. Cricket is a hard work and fast bowling, i mean 150 k type of bowling is an absolutely back breaking process. You need patience and lot of hard work. I doubt whether punjabis have that much patience and willingness to do that much hard work. I dont know why they seems so lazy when it comes to Cricket. Yes they are more into hockey and join army. 2. Drugs are one big factor as well. Being a punjabi myself, i sometimes feels very bad seeing some good families people too taking drugs. In main punjab areas, drugs are spreading very fast. 3.Punjabis want quick money and tradition of going abroad is very prevalent in punjab, so even some good players have gone abroad like Australia or UK or Canada. This is serious in our country, you don't want some very talented Indians to go abroad to earn more money. But now i think, with the upcoming of Varun Aaron and Umesh Yadav, they will have examples to follow and try and bowl fast.

I am hard-core follower of non-cricket sports like Volleyball,Athletics, Basketball and trust me ,all these sports require much more hardwork and patience to excel and I have seen plenty of Punjabies in these sports. I think the problem lies somewhere else. I would say the cricket authorities should catch the prospective athletes at a young stage itself. Ludhiana Basketball Academy( where they go to Punjabi villages and get tall guys to play basketball),Rurka Kalan Football academy are some examples of how ppl catch them young and train to good athletes n sportsmen. If they can do this in less-glamorous and more physical sports like Basketball, Football, Athletics etc why cant Punjab Cricket association emulate it in cricket? Also this will lead more youngsters from the dangerous path of drugs to the healthy way of sports.

Cricket is a kind of glamorous sport and no sport is easy, whether its Cricket, Hockey or Athletics. I myself is a very big fan of sports and army-men. I believe representing your country in sports and army are THE TWO biggest achievements. India is somehow slowly and steadily coming out of corruption system. That means no more sifarish system or zonal system and deserving players will get chance. And they are making efforts to go to remote villages and unearth fast bowling talents. Like MRF pace competition or Gatorade fast bowling competition.

Ian Bishop felt he was developing into a good fast bowling prospect. Winning fulsome praise from cricketers of such calibre is no mean feat. That was the time Vikram Rajveer Singh, alias VRV Singh, had it all: raw pace and a fast bowler's height and physique. He played his last competitive game in 2010 (for Kings XI Punjab against CSK). Just where has VRV been? His body has been injury-prone, forcing him to miss the whole of last season. At the Sector 16 Stadium here, VRV is undergoing rehabilitation after a back surgery earlier this year. He's hoping that times will change for the better. "I have been working on strengthening my lower body (the back). So far I've had positive results, for I don't feel the pain anymore. I am working on strengthening of my muscles at the Sector 16 Stadium which is close to my house. I will start bowling in three-four weeks," said VRV, who once enjoyed the same kind of attention as the new breed of India quicks, Varun Aaron and Umesh Yadav. When he was playing at the top level, questions had been asked about his attitude and fitness levels. The burly pacer, however, wants to start afresh. "I want to start from scratch. I don't think about them as I know I've time and can come back." http://www.dnaindia.com/sport/report_pain-no-more-a-barrier-for-forgotten-vrv-singh_1601475 i wish him good Luck though i have no Hope that he will come up...fast bowling requires highest level of fitness stamina and strength..at best he can come back and become a trundler , i dont see him coming back as a 140K + bowler. a fast bowler's career is not more than 3 to 4 years of genuine pace, after that he has to become a trundler..what i wanna say is that after 4 years Umesh and Aaron will become trundlers or will become Slow definitely if they do well they will gain in lot of skills like ZAK and may stay else will be thrown out like irfan and other so many pace bowlers. Bowlers Like PK and VK can have long Careers if they devlop there Skills a lot and in case they are very good and play in some format of the game as in tests , i beleive trundlers are hardly picked on bowling thats why i am delighted with the selectors have picked only FAST BOWLERS- ishant varun n umesh are all genuine fast bowlers and i feel these slow skilled trundlers should know that there days are numbered unless they can bowl around 138 k to 140K. i am one of the VK haters ( as u all know) and i saw that one day while he was bowling to KP..he did bowl around 3 balls at 137K in a 4 over spell .....it made me a bit Happy but very soon he started bowling under 130K, which means he has the tendency to slow down and not put that kind of hardwork that he is capable of...if he can regularly swing n use his skills and bowl between 135k to 138K..he has a future but if he is a skilled bowler but a under 130K bowler..he may still have a future but as a t20 bowler or a one day bowler , for some 1 days..he definitely cannot force test batsman to get out easily...
