Old guy Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 One important question of the WTF selection. I am yet to understand the logic behind this selection while simultaneous selecting Mithun for Aussie series. So' date=' if Irfan performs well the next two ODIs then what will the selectors do. Will they again replace Mithun with Irfan. No offense but this time Cheeka is not even making an iota of sense in this selection. Even Vinay Kumar would have been better than Mithun for the Aussies series.[/quote'] ditto

panther Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 you don't have it as bad as us we have to put up with tanvir, farhat and malik
bajrang Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 i think its pretty decent move. experience has to brought into the bowling line up he seems to be only experienced guy available atm who is performing.
ganeshran Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I dont understand what you guys are crying about. Yadav would most probably be leaving for Australia which is a more important series and he needs to get acclimatized there.
pensionplan Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Now let us see if the poster boy Irfan 'Chuvha' Pathan sets the stage on fire for all the yapping he has been doing for years now. Let us see between him and Vinay who comes out on top in these two ODI's. Excellent selection by the way to not select Pathan for the Aussie series without seeing enough and these two ODI's will give an indicator as to if he can even be considered for future tours as an option if the situation arises.
vishalvirsingh Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 U may be right......Test matches require 100 percent fitness and I feel zak is goign to OZ just to grOom other bowlers and act as a coach as I feel he won't play any Tests and if he is drafted in one test.....he will be underbowled and he will under perform. If Zak was fully fit why did he not go full throttle against the Orissa Team.....even when he had a great chance to take a fifer( Read weak opposition)....if I wud be ZAk and fuLly fit and I get weak opposition I wud wanna prove out to world that I am Back...... After that performance we r still in a dilemna whether he wud play first Test or second Test.... I feel he won't play first and second test and wait to recover and play third. Why do u wanna play when u r not Sure about your fitness...... The day I goto play I have a couple of Redbull drinks and I jog for 3 kms on the field to warm up and I am 100 percent sure of my fitness.....it seems Zak is not sure...let him wait and Play only if he is 100 percent fit.
ViruRulez Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Hope that all the three contenders including Vinay, Irfan and Mithun play the next two matches so that a healthy competition arises where it can be judged who is the best amongst them. But I doubt that Mithun would be benched by Veeru and Aaron instead picked in the playing XI.

ViruRulez Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 bro u really are that desperate to see the all time slowest attack? Nope. As I said from what I know of Veeru, Aaron would probably replace Mithun IMO.

Trundler27 Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 the puzzling nonsense continues unabated with our selectors Bl o o dy fools picked a guy who is doing well in FC cricket for the shorter format ODI's and the guy who has been useless in test matches gets picked for the aussie test series. The only consoling factor for me is that mithun will hopefully not be in consideration to play any of the tests down under while irfan will likely get a couple of games to see if he can do any better at the international level. Ideally Irfan should replace Vinay Ko-maar in the next odi and umesh will make way for Aaron. Don't think rahul sharma, manoj tiwary or rahane will get any games since we failed to wrap up the series today.
JeffThommo_fan Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I think this is excellent selection and planning. Only regret is my personal favorite, Manpreet Gony, who was the 2nd highest wicket taker so far, is not selected. Everything else is fine. 1. Mithun is included in the squad just for the grooming purposes. There are 4 other bowlers as well who will be the first choice bowlers, as of now. 2. Selection panel wanted to check Mithun's match fitness (not match form**), so they gave him the game here in 3rd ODI and thats y Aaron was rested in this match. Aaron will come back in the next matches. 3. Umesh is not dropped off the last two ODIs. He is left out bcoz he will be leaving early for Australia. Very good planning here, must appreciate :two_thumbs_up: 4. Why pick Irfan Pathan for last 2 ODIs if he is not going to Australia? :hmmm: The ans is, selectors don't think or not sure that Irfan bowling is test standard. So, they don't want to take chance by picking him in the test team. So, why in ODIs? After Umesh early departure for Australia, 1 place is vacant. Irfan is the leading wicket taker in Ranji. So, better try him first in these two ODIs. **About Abhimanyu Mithun, team management somehow feels that he is one for the future. Thats y, in last 1 yr, they just keep picking him and keep dropping him. They thinks this Aus tour is best time to groom him as the 5th pacer.

The latter is a pathetic trundler at best!!!

A lot has changed since he was last in the squads. At least one of the ODIs will be an opportunity to try the formula we could not without a seaming all-rounder.
vvvslaxman Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 If Zak drops out in the middle Irfan will replace him?

Team management and some senior players in Indian team believes he is the future prospect and he should be groomed
