Teen star Cummins in doubt for India series Chris Barrett December 7, 2011 Teenage speedster Patrick Cummins is in doubt for the entire Test series against India after scans on his heel revealed the injury to be worse than first expected. The 18-year-old picked up the injury during his man of the match performance on debut against South Africa in Johannesburg last month and has not played since. He was tipped to return for the Boxing Day Test against India in Melbourne but may now miss the entire four-match series. Initially thought to be just a bruised heel, further scans identified a bone stress component to the injury, Cricket Australia general manager Pat Howard said. "The medical staff took a decision that Patrick's recovery versus previous scans did not seem consistent and proactively made the decision that further scans were required," Howard said."These scans have revealed a bone stress injury which pushes out his recovery by a few weeks. "This wasn't picked up in the initial scans done in South Africa. Unfortunately this, when combined with Patrick's young age to prepare for Test cricket, means that he will miss much of the Indian series. Whilst unfortunate for Pat, this presents an opportunity for other players which was evident in Brisbane and we will continue to support players to have those quality opportunities." That present crop of Test pacemen - Peter Siddle, James Pattinson and Mitchell Starc - now have an opportunity to properly establish themselves in Michael Clarke's XI before the main event of the summer - the contest against India. At least one was facing being left out at the MCG if Cummins was fit, and while Ryan Harris (hip) remains confident of being available for the series opener there in just under three weeks' time, Cummins will not resume bowling again until at least mid-January. hope he gets well soon cricket cant afford to lose too many genuine fast bowling talents now imo he was rushed into test side..test matches are hard specially if ur fast bowler and he is only 18 he will get stronger and fitter in 2-3 years

ishant is only playing tests.. yadav too was rested in 3rd test and is now going to australia and aaron was rested in last match(im not sure but commentator said this) so india i think learned a bit form english disaster :P

Bad new for cricket fans. We are going to miss some good action due to his injury. Would have loved to watch Cummins and Pattinson bowling in tandem against our batting line up. Was so looking forward to that. Ryan Harris is also injured, may not play in the first test. So problems for Australia.

If a few more guys like Watson Ricky and a few top bowlers break down ..we have a fair chance to WIN else I see a 4-0 or a 3-1....in case we win during the end of the series..... Even our batters r not that Great against Genuine Quick bowling on Pacer friendly Tracks. I sincerely Feel Yadav and Ishant Wud be Super hits after this series- only IF they can manage their Fitness and maintain their current form. Aaron will only play if Zak does not play and if Zak plays he will not bend his back and so won't get BIG SUCCESS.....its simple Fast bowling is 80 percent BRAWN( physical) and 20 percent Brains..... The Coal miners son is Strong enuf to compete with Australians and its his time to write his pages in the history books....Ishant also has to Prove himself..... GO Yadav Go.... Ishu- Scare the Aussie"s..if u cud it then u can do it again. Let's see what the batters do..... I have little expectatsions from ZaK as a Wounded Lion is not a Terror to Hyena"s ...they can even Khunt him. Here I mean wounded Zak can be thrashed.

It is not all about work load. It is about bodies. Neither Harris nor Cummins has played too much cricket. Whether they play too much or too less, they will sustain injuries. It depends on once body and how his body can handle the load. Injuries cannot be avoided in any case that is why it is better to have wide eyes and make a bigger pool of fast bowlers. Look at Johnson, he has played so much cricket over the years, but never look to be fatigued or injured and then the injury he sustain was while batting.

???? we are still favourites with cummins/harris. without we'll win. ppl are taking this australian side too seriously. oz have won a test in sa. so have we. oz beat muraliless sl. so have we. we got thrashed by eng. so have oz.

That's a shame, I really want to see both sides at full strength because it would be a really cracking series. Cummins is actually more than a doubt though, he is definately out of the boxing day test and may miss the whole series. He is supposed to be back mid to late January. Apparently Harris is hopeful for the Boxing Day test though, so that's good news. He is a really good bowler.
