I didn't ask what Lara did in the other matches. I just wanted to know if Klusener or Donald played in that match :dontknow:

Pollock and Matthews were preerred ahead of Donald for that match. But, boy, that was some innings from Lara. I love to watch these highlights when I have to see a majestic innings.

Lara is one of my most favorite batsmen, but it was indeed a selfish innings. There was no reason to score 751 in the first place. It doesn't matter what England went on to score. They played 2 and a half days to score those runs. Knowing that it was a flat pitch they should have declared overnight on a score of around 600 to push for a victory. No one can deny that they kept on batting on the 3rd day just to beat the world record and declared it exactly at 400. Yes it probably didn't matter in the end but that's not the point.

Yes it probably didn't matter in the end but that's not the point.[/quote'] After getting bowled out for 47 runs.. in the previous test.. they wanted to keep England under the sun as much as possible.. :cantstop: Anyway St.Johns is a super patta wicket and Windies bowling attack was not really world class. they had 248 overs at their disposal to bowl out England twice.

Lara also played an awkward innings. But Hooper and Azharuddin played superbly.. My only article that got published on cricinfo was about hooper way back in 2001. Archives are gone now.

This is one way of looking at it. The other way is England made 280 in first inning and were all out. They had to followon and WI had to only take 5 more wickets to win when time ran out. I will remember Lara for many things: 1. For first 10 runs he shuffled all around the stumps and looked really very awkward but man after his initial 15 runs he could single handedly change the course of the game. 2. After Kapil, the only player who hits Natraj pull shot. 3. The best player, even better than Sachin or Dravid while playing backfoot defence, which was the major reason he was so successful against spinners in Test Matches. 4. Had really great temprament, determined, after Hayden broke his record he was determined to regain that record in his name. No I am not saying he is record conscious, that nomenclature is associated with only one player. 5. He had very high batlift, which was the major reason he had difficulty against out and out pace bowlers like Waqar and Akhtar. 6. He seemed to be arrogant while fielding at slips, I mean I never found him a team man like Ponting or Sachin, he always seemed to be maintaining a distance with other team mates 7. His 150 against Aus is probably the best test match inning ever played
