Have we given up on Raina-the test batsman

Temperamentwise Yuvraj is okay. But his fishing outside the off stump' date=' defense against pace and spin are huge weaknesses. Those are the things that cause failures in Test cricket more often than not.[/quote'] Agreed, but if the team management is insistent on having a left hander, then perhaps Yuvi could be given another go(better than Raina imo),his bowling is a bonus

vvvs, You say temperament wise Yuvi ok. I dont think so. One or two testing overs by a good quick bowler (or spinner) - where he is forced to "thadavu-fy" (how do you translate "thadavu-fy" lol, closest is scratch around, squared up etc) , then he will do something really stupid and throw it away in next over. Of course he will wince and grimace after he is out while walking back.

I don't know if Yuvraj is the right choice to replace Raina. I feel that Rahane should open and Sehwag pushed to middle order will be a good move. This will probably extend Sehwag's career a little bit. If Sehwag continues to open in tests we might not see him playing for a long time.

Rahane is the best no 6 option we have. Amazing how many people confuse ODI ability with tests
And they blame the selectors on having the same logic. :giggle: Raina got a shot in the NZ test because he screw few fifties and finished us some game...kudos to that :congrats: If the selectors picked him on that basis..then why wasn't Pathan picked aswell?

Well it looks like the selectors have given up on him.
Not really, the selectors selected players whom are in better form. Raina is a good player and really can make it to test level. It's still in his hands by performing well in the domestic matches.

Obviously, I meant "as for now" before my earlier post. Anyone can come back on performance including ex-players.

Ploy to save Raina's career by dropping him vs ENG Suresh Kumar Raina is walking wicket against Graeme Peter Swann, he simply can't play him. He will average in single digits vs ENG as long as Swann is in playing XI. He will be back vs AUS and score a century! :hatsoff:
