I thought it was ok...faar too many copied bits, directly ripped off Chaplin - there is one bit where he is lying on that statues and as he jumps off and runs away Im SURE there is a brief snippet a shot of charlie Chaplin, a poster or cut out possibly...so its almost a homage ..maybe...?! also ripped off The Notebook amongst others as pointed out here... TGfo4ZV4xTs as rkt said, interesting and original premise and quite well acted...though Priyanka didnt seem to get as much screen time as she deserved...and I was surprised that Barfi wanted to end up with her...I thought he was more in love with Shruti...unless he was over her by then...in that sense it was a bit of a flaw in the storytelling Priyankas character was not given enough focus I wasnt totally convinced by the structure, and various flashbacks etc...but it worked at the end... a good attempt at clever storytelling....

coffee_rules Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Barfi worked in it's original emotions/scenes. The copied scenes were forced and seemed out of place. It was like ..look at all the cool movies I know of..that I pay homage to..in my movie. Without blending them into the narration. The ending scenes were original and it worked. Not as bad as some people have made it out to be. PC was good. I think people don't read any review before watching it. They either hype it or trash it unnecessarily. PC was 1000 times better than the Asperger Syndrome act of SRGay in MNIK.

Wooden lamp posts ftw!!! They make for a very romantic setting. The our regular metallic lamp posts are just meh.

These kind of films have more chances to work. Though I would say last year's Oscar sweeper The Artist too took inspiration from other sources. Misrepresentation, you mean. GoW is a very average movie, basically a vendetta themed movie that is no different from the mid 90s " haramzade, 25 saal pehle isi emarat ke neeche tune mere baap ka khoon kiya tha, aaj isi jagah mai tera naamonishan mita doonga" Sunil Shetty movies. Its just that GoW is interspersed with expletives and some unnecessarily gory scenes. Unnecessary expletives, does not a cinema make. Honestly, don't see what the fuss is all about.

Barfi does not represent India. What's all this business about representing India? A film is supposed to represent what a director wants it to represent. Its a view through the director's glasses. A movie that is sent to the Oscars from India doesn't have to 'represent' India, it only has to be a good movie. Forest Gump won a couple of Oscars. Does Forest Gump (the character) represent America? :P To answer your question, I've been to UP quite a few times. Mainly as a tourist and on one occasion to attend a wedding. I've never seen anything remotely GOW-like. Yes, there were a lot of touts and cheats, but they were all very polite. I would love to travel to Bihar some day.
