vvvslaxman Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Ironically Waqar younis made the debut in the same test as Sachin.. Both Steyn and Waqar have somewhat similar strike rates in Tests.
rkt.india Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Why only asking about Steyn? what about Marshall, Lillie, McGrath, Ambrose, Garner, Akram, Donald. We would have liked to have all of them.:giggle:
Asim Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 WAQAR YOUNIS, who we got in very much the same match :)
Old guy Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 u people are lucky had so many gr8 bowlers in 90's :(( still steyn is the best!
Old guy Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 on topic.. u always want something which u dont have and dont appreciate what u already have :)
velu Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 i would pick vinay kumar over sachin anyday :JPK :hehe:
Needforspeed Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 If Steyn was available in 1989 for India, selectors would have picked him for one match in one of the flat pattas, he would have gone for a lot of runs and would have been replaced by the 5'3" Chetan Sharma. That would have been the end of his career. So I would take Sachin over Steyn.
India-KXIP fan Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 200 tests is much better than the 90 or so Steyn will have played so it would be stupid to pick steyn.
Number Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 You need 1 or even 2 good partners as well for an effective fast bowler in Tests. wo kaha se laoge? If we get the duo or trio, I'll chose them over Sachin.
Ultimate_Game Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 You need 1 or even 2 good partners as well for an effective fast bowler in Tests. wo kaha se laoge? If we get the duo or trio, I'll chose them over Sachin. A hall of famer wkt taker backed up by Srinath, Prasad and Kumble would have been awesome for us. I still remember so many matches where Srinath & Prasad took wkts with the new ball for us to release the pressure with the 3rd seamer. The drop-off from our top 2 and the rest was so steep that other teams knew all they had to do was to play out the first hour and then make hay the rest of the Test. And secondly I am assuming that a genuine fast bowling wkt taker would have allowed us to blow away the tail. I have lost count of the number of times we took away the top 5 or 6 wkts and then watched helplessly as the tail scored more than the top order  I guess it was again the function of no decent 3rd seamer since the main bowlers simply didn't have any support.
Pagalpanti Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Due respect to Sachin I'll go for Steyn. Because we've had good batsman over the years but yet to find a genuine world-class fast bowler. Steyn easily for me.
Sidhoni Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Why only Steyn as a choice along with Sachin? There are several lefengs of fast bowling like the West Indies' bowlers from the 80's. OR Akram, Mcgrath etc.?
punjabi_khota Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Barring OZ (bowling riches) and Pakistan (lack of batting), every other team would probably pick Steyn.
adi B Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 steyn anyday, we can have batsmen having better than sachin or even strike rate in india, but steyn is a fast bowler who i would like to see in india bcoz of the deficiency in quality of fast bowlers here...a bowler like steyn can win u matches single handedly... but the question also depends on which pasrt of world u are in, for example a paki or an australian right now would anyday want sachin ahead of steyn, bcoz of deficiency in batting department
