daryl1985 Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Anyone who has watched this Eng-SA series properly will know that Philander has bowled well. He has been accurate, economical, beaten the bat quite a few times and has had a lot of edges that have not carried to the slips. His stats do not reflect how well he has bowled here.

His stats do not reflect how well he has bowled here. i have never followed any test series like this one ..and i completely agree with u well even forget abt wickets.. yesterday commentators were telling after going for 12 runs in first over he gave away 7 odd in rest of his spell! and after tht morkel bowled tht tight spell to braistow and cos of pressure he played a very bad shot philander here has bowled good spells got set people out, players like cook out :giggle: and he never gives away anything some one like steyn can be erratic and attack from other end
Trichromatic Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 What are you talking about? Check Ishant's record in India' date=' you will know about that, exclude WI series last year which was the only series he has been ineffective in India and he has an average of 28 in India. He has been instrumental in India reaching #1 along with Zak because our spin bowling even at home has been ineffective in recent 3-4 years.[/quote'] Ishant was good in his early days mainly 2008. After that he has been going downhill probably because of both form and fitness.
rkt.india Posted August 19, 2012 Author Posted August 19, 2012 Ishant was good in his early days mainly 2008. After that he has been going downhill probably because of both form and fitness. In India, he has not. He only has one real bad series against WI last year. Otherwise he has done well in most series in India. Overseas is the problem for him. He has not done well there. Look at the series in India in 2008 against Aus and England, did well, SA series before that at Kanpur where he took wickets, and 2010 against Aus, 2010 against SA, 2010 against NZ the only test we won that is because his 7 wickets. Against Australia averages 28 in 5 tests at home. England average 25 in 2 tests at home. New Zealand average 8 in 1 test he played against them at home. Pakistan average 28 in 1 test home. SA averages 38 in 2 tests at home. had 1 really poor match against SL in 2009-2010 and one whole poor series against Wi last year.
velu Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 we have our own philander philander kumar :proud: lol.. :cantstop::cantstop: we have our own Donald too .. donald kumar :icflove:
SLICKR392 Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 he has brain and he uses it along with it good enough control to back his plans and with steyn and morkel bowling form other end its bit easier bowled really well yesterday again Exactly. He doesn't have the pace of Steyn or neither does he swings the bowl much but uses his brains. More like Zak but better so far.
Manny_Pacquiao Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 impossible to critcise his bowling style when he has such a sick bowling average. will probably get lower after he finishes a test series against dil dil pakistan's kindergarten batting lineup.
Ultimate_Game Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 Exactly. He doesn't have the pace of Steyn or neither does he swings the bowl much but uses his brains. More like Zak but better so far. Nothing like Zak. Zak relies on swing whereas Philander relies on seam like McGrath. Philander is a slower version of McGrath, a poor man's McGrath if you will.
dragonfly Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 This guy can bat too? Who, Vinay Kumar? If so, yes.
rkt.india Posted August 20, 2012 Author Posted August 20, 2012 Nothing like Zak. Zak relies on swing whereas Philander relies on seam like McGrath. Philander is a slower version of McGrath' date=' a poor man's McGrath if you will.[/quote'] Slower and shorter.
Trichromatic Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Can Philander become fastest to reach 100 wickets? He has got 63 wickets in 10 matches. Next series is in Australia (3 tests) and then home series against NZ (2 tests).
zep1706 Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Nothing like Zak. Zak relies on swing whereas Philander relies on seam like McGrath. Philander is a slower version of McGrath' date=' a poor man's McGrath if you will.[/quote'] McGrath also relied on extra bounce from good length.

And he ends up with the best average of all the bowlers and second top wicket taker behind Steyn. Amazing how keen people are to write someone off just because they're not 'super-fast'.
Crookbond Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 ^ Just stupid perceptions as usual. He was top-notch in the 3rd Test.
ganeshran Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 What are you talking about? How can you exclude the series in which he was poor in and then use that average to argue for Ishant. Beats the whole purpose of average. Point is he averages 32+ in India and 45+ almost everywhere else except in Bangbrosland and Windies.

Beats the whole purpose of average. Point is he averages 32+ in India and 45+ almost everywhere else except in Bangbrosland and Windies. I meant before WI series, he averaged 28 in India. He had bad WI series does not mean he cannot have a good series after that.

phaedrus Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 we have our own philander philander kumar :proud: lol.. :cantstop::cantstop: we have our own Donald too .. donald kumar :icflove: if only we could have him bowling from both ends
ganeshran Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 I meant before WI series' date=' he averaged 28 in India. He had bad WI series does not mean he cannot have a good series after that.[/quote'] But his average reflects his overall record till now which is poor. if we cherry pick only the good performances, his average will obviously improve. Ishant is half decent in India and just awful outside. He has time on his side, so can improve, but lets see whether he has the motivation to do so
