maniac Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Look at the 2004 batch and coincide with Greg Chappell's tenure...not bad eh? I mean most of these guys might have been flashes but no denying that they did contribute to some of our more memorable succese in recent times
jairamesh Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Not many bowlers coming. Late bloomers? or poor youth management of bowling resources?
BeautifulGame Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Reetinder Singh Sodhi  Remember him being talked of as the next Kapil once upon a time( after the under 19 world cup i think).:cantstop:
Needforspeed Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Interesting to see those missing from the U19 list among the players who play for India...Ashwin, Zaheer Khan, Praveen Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron, MS Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir, Pragyan Ojha. So is the selection policy of U19 teams not so good or these guys are late bloomers?

So is the selection policy of U19 teams not so good or these guys are late bloomers? all late bloomers i believe. ashwin was a batsman in his late teens. dhoni too. he played ranji late. i remember in 2003/04 i used to watch ranji scorecards and there would be this guy for jharkand 'dhoni' who would hit centuries every match. umesh started bowling at 18/19.

Trichromatic Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Dhoni was included in the team mainly because of his list A performances, though he did well in 2004 Ranji matches by scoring 2 centuries in 4 games. Other than that he wasn't good in FC cricket.
deathmonger Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Dhoni was included in the team mainly because of his list A performances. then prolly list A. sorry should not have said ranji. domestic scorecards. ppl use ranji as a synonym for domestic.
rkt.india Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Interesting to see those missing from the U19 list among the players who play for India...Ashwin, Zaheer Khan, Praveen Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron, MS Dhoni, Gautam Gambhir, Pragyan Ojha. So is the selection policy of U19 teams not so good or these guys are late bloomers? Gambhir played for India U19 but did not play U19 wc because he passed the age before that. Ojha too was in U19 I guess some time. Dhoni, Ashwin, Zaheer, Yadav they are late bloomers. Aaron played all U19s also performed well but never picked for India U19 because they could not pick too many from the same state as Tiwary and Jaggi were already there.
rkt.india Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 Dhoni was included in the team mainly because of his list A performances' date=' though he did well in 2004 Ranji matches by scoring 2 centuries in 4 games. Other than that he wasn't good in FC cricket.[/quote'] Dont measure him as a specialist batsman. As a WK/batsman, he was good. Not many keepers had better record than him.
Prakat Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 dhoni, sreesanth and many others came from the talent development wing which has since been dismantled by the bcci because it was so productive.
Ultimate_Game Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 dhoni' date=' sreesanth and many others came from the [b']talent development wing which has since been dismantled by the bcci because it was so productive. We had something like "Talent Development Wing" :omg:
rkt.india Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 We had something like "Talent Development Wing" :omg: TRDO
Ultimate_Game Posted August 30, 2012 Posted August 30, 2012 TRDO And BCCI killed it coz it was working? Aah that explains why MRF pace academy and NCA (National Cricket Academy) are still around :haha:
