vvvslaxman Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 What do you think the best series for a given player? I'll start Laxman 2001 series vs Australia Vengsarkar 1986 English Tour Mohinder 1983 West Indies Tour along 1982/83 Pakistan tour Gavaskar 1970/71 debut series vs West Indies Azharuddin 1984/85 debut series vs England Kapil dev 1978/79 vs Pakistan at home
vvvslaxman Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 Dravid - Adelaide Test 2003 I think series where he made 3 centuries in a row in England which led to him becoming a world no.1 batsman and wisden cricketer of the year was a defining series for him.
Sehwag1830 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Sehwag: CT 2002(ODI) , AUS tour:2003 test
SLICKR392 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I think series where he made 3 centuries in a row in England which led to him becoming a world no.1 batsman and wisden cricketer of the year was a defining series for him. Yes, going by a whole series.
Sid Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Yuvi : SA tour of India 2005 Before this Yuvi was still just a good ODI batsman but after this series he was a different beast.I think it was start of 3 back to back man of the series for him.
maniac Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Ganguly- can be classified as a comeback+debut in 1996 Eng tour-Seriously I thought he was a quota candidate but then went on acheive great heights Kumble-1992-93 England tour of India or India's tour of SA 1992-debatable SRT-1991 aus tour-People always knew he was a prodigy but that tour made him, given the amount of articles that started to pop up about him around that time. VVS-2001 Aus tour of India Bhajji-2001 Aus tour of India Dravid-1996 debut tour of England Srinath-1996 tour of England-his first real challenge as the spearhead of our bowling-sign of things to come Except for VVS/Bhajji,Most players careers are defined in overseas series
maniac Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Prsad-India's tour of South Africa 1996-97-Outbowled Srinath in some spells and for all it's worth was the 2nd best seamer in India at that time Sehwag-South Africa tour 2001-202 Dhoni-2005-2006 tour of Pak
1983-2011 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Zaheer Khan, Test Series vs England in 2007
Utalk Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Younis khan tour to India 2005. He was considered a decent batsman before that but 147 in calcutta and 267 in banglore established him as a true class player. From here he went on to average 60 over next 7 years.
Utalk Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Saqlain the test bowler announced himself in Ind 99.
ravishingravi Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Shoaib Akhtar in Asian test chmpionship
The Outsider Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 What do you think the best series for a given player? Gavaskar 1970/71 debut series vs West Indies For me, India's tour to England in '79. Azharuddin 1984/85 debut series vs England India's tour to England in '90. Kapil dev 1978/79 vs Pakistan at home As a batsman, India's tour to England in '82 and as a bowler West Indies in India in '83.
Khalpat Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 ^^ I agree on the part of Azharuddin, that was the best series for him and specially his inning in Lords I have not seen better batting then that. I guess he made 169 or something.
Pagalpanti Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 2001 was special for Laxman but I guess he got his big break in Sydney 1999.
