Raghav_12
No question of removing Dhoni as captain: BCCI The Indian cricket board has ruled out removing MS Dhoni as the captain of the Indian team after the team's poor performance in the England series and the poor overseas records, said reports on Tuesday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which has appointed Ravi Shastri as the director of the team in the ODI against England, has ruled out removing Dhoni as captain. http://indiablooms.com/ibns_new/sports-details/SN/753/no-question-of-removing-dhoni-as-captain-bcci.html :two_thumbs_up: who is BCCI and who took this decision? The Realist
Gavaskar, Laxman Defend Dhoni Indian cricketing greats Sunil Gavaskar and V.V.S.Laxman Monday sought to defend under-fire Mahendra Singh Dhoni saying had it not been for the India captain's heroic knocks the team would have suffered more ignominy. Dhoni scored four half-centuries that ensured India respectable totals during the 1-3 Test series loss in England. "M.S. Dhoni fought it out, both at Old Trafford and Oval. He curbed his natural instinct and scored runs when India needed them. Had he not scored runs, India would have been bowled out under 100 a couple of times," Gavaskar told NDTV. Gavaskar feels Dhoni seemed like the only man in the Indian team ready to fight it out. "The way Dhoni fought it out gave me the impression that here was a man who was ready to fight it out for his team," he said. Laxman, who had played under Dhoni, said the India captain still thinks about Test and was also looking to improve. "Dhoni cares about Tests. He is a captain, who is always thinking of improving. When a captain tries to improve and the team does not respond to challenges, that is tough," he said. Laxman said what can a captain do if the team loses wickets in the first 10 overs. "What can a captain do when the team loses wickets in the first 10 overs? Dhoni takes a lot of pride in wearing the India cap. He has had success as Test skipper also. He was captain when India was number one," Laxman said. http://www.newindianexpress.com/cricket/news/Gavaskar-Laxman-Defend-Dhoni/2014/08/19/article2387515.ece Looks like the tongues have been moistened and the licking up is about to start Laxman is a dreadful commentator/analyst. So bland and empty. Link to comment

Straight Drive
Thanks Realist for the 2 quotes. Impressive. Even ECB did not back Cook so much in spite of their historic win in India. BCCI has to be the most supportive board for under performing teams ? At least it is doing good for some one. Regarding Laxman - so he too has started taking it from the givers. He had a very different opinion about captaincy in one of the test series where in he was commentator. Role and importance of test captain must have changed within an year for sure. Link to comment

Even if BCCI wants to change who should they appoint. Kohli is the only player established in both formats of the game and his bad run has done no favor. Link to comment

Virat and Chet are the possible candidates in the test format irrespective of their form in this series. Link to comment

panther
Dhoni is a product of Bcci that 6 he hit to win the world cup is going to hurt Indian cricket for sometime. Brand sachin gone, bcci needed someone else so they chose dhoni. gambhir could of stole the show in the world cup final but bcci made sure he did not, who would play such a reckless shot on 97? Brand dhoni still strong. Link to comment

You keep saying that. :) And there are others who are willing to go with Pujara/Kohli/Ashwin in spite of them being out of form as they feel they'd still be better than Dhoni. It's just a difference of opinion, I choose to go with the latter. Link to comment
