I think India needs an Indian to be at the helm of things with the test team. Dada' date=' if interested could be a good choice. His aggressive and never-die attitude alone would do wonders than this samosa-tea gulping mentality. Poor guy was in the wrong time zone for the role. I do miss the dadagiri, was critical of his approach in the later phase of captaincy but cannot stand the abysmal performances these days. It might just be what we need, some character & new faces to start climbing up the ladder followed by another semi-golden phase under the likes of a recommended coach like Flower. Wishful thinking :(

Who was the last Indian coach, Kapil Dev ? Poor guy was in the wrong time zone for the role. I do miss the dadagiri, was critical of his approach in the later phase of captaincy but cannot stand the abysmal performances these days. It might just be what we need, some character & new faces to start climbing up the ladder followed by another semi-golden phase under the likes of a recommended coach like Flower. Wishful thinking :(

Same here. I thought that time what a pathetic team we have :(( And now, I feel it was a dream time for us Indian fans . Atleast we lost to a world dominating Aus side 2-1 at our home unlike now, when we lose tests left, right and centre

In India tje coach is not allowed to be in charge and manage. He is a slave to BCCI and players whims. I am sure if Fletcher(not that I rate him particularly) was given full control he would improve things a lot. I reckon if he asks players to do a lap of the pitch as a warm up, a few would tell him to f off and be backed by hierachy, Fletcher would be able to do jack.

Firstly, he is a quitter whenever it gets tough, has his favorites, off-field ego clashes. Then, there are other aspects, coaching experience, high media profile.....

The Indian Test teamÃÔ poor show in England, Australia and now at home means coach Duncan Fletcher is unlikely to get a contract extension in April 2013. Fletcher, 64, will be in charge of the team when the Australians come touring early next year. Fletcher was appointed as the coach of the Indian cricket team on April 27, 2011 shortly after India won the 50-over World Cup at home when Gary Kirsten was in-charge. If a top BCCI official is to be believed, the former English coach will not be offered fresh terms and conditions. The Indian team had a disastrous run in England and Australia where they lost 4-0 in each of the tours. The 1-2 loss to England at home, however, is being seen as a sign that the Test team is not able to play to its potential even at home. Ūt is unlikely that FletcherÃÔ contract will be renewed. Two years is enough time for a coach to deliver results and Fletcher has not been able to do that. He has a lot of experience but that is not reflecting in the way the team is playing, a top BCCI official told The Sunday Express. The BCCI official also hinted that one of the candidates who could be in contention to replace Fletcher is a former Australian bowler from the 90's. ŵhere is no point in removing Fletcher now because we have a Test series coming up at home against Australia. BCCI will see what can be done once the Test series concluded next year, a source added. Bowling coach Joe Dawes, who has a two-year contract, is also unlikely to continue in his role for much longer. Dawes was appointed bowling coach in February this year and joined the team in March during the Asia Cup. However, the Indian cricket board is happy with the performance of fielding coach Trevor Penney. Ÿe have got good feedback from the players about Penny and he is likely to be given a renewed contract, the official added.

While I'm not defending Fletcher, India's problems lie deep rooted in an administration that prioritises making money over improving the standard of cricketers within the country. Fletcher is just the latest scapegoat. We can get a new coach and we might see small improvements but nothing drastic unless something changes in the administration. I'd like to see 4 specialist coaches (Batting, Pace bowling, Spin Bowling and Fielding) lead by a team manager.
