It's surprising how many just want him to play on the basics of IPL. While at the same time, those same people question on why players should be picked on IPL performances.

IPL was just a medium to see him how good he is. Afterall how many of us had seen Zak before debt, Munaf before debut, Sriath before debut, Iqbal Siddiqui before debut, Tinu Yohanan nefore debut, Nehra before debut, Dodda Ganesh before debut, Johnson, Harvinder, Mohanty before debut. They all were selected based on their FC performances and same is with Awana. What we saw in IPL was that he could bowl well and whether he will do thay in test match cricket is a different issue. At least, he desvered selection based on his last 2-3 years' FC record.

no' date='its his FC performances[/quote'] You do realize that both in the history + present, there have been tons of players who have had better stats in domestics but never got a chance. Like it or not, his IPL performances was definately a reason for his selection. And also the only reason why many here are rating him . ( As I guess >90% of never watched him other than IPL)

i've seen him bowl in a ranji match even b4 his debut in IPL also he has been a consistent performer for last 2 or 3 yrs i dont see any problem with his inclusion but yes pankaj singh deserves a chance more than him:agree: i would have loved to see him in place of ishant

I feel for Indian bowlers really. All they get is a few flat tracks all season where they are expected to manage 5ers and what not, and at the end we play with 4 spinners and ONE unlucky pacer. And Rahane can retire now I think. Don't see him playing for India ever. Yeah, he maybe making his debut in South Africa now if at all.

Ishant had bowled 140 k to 148 k during his first international season. He dropped his pace to 130 to 142 k during his second and third season. He increased his pace again to 140 k to 148 k last season after competion from Umesh and Aaron, his fastest being 152 k in Aus. So, he can bowl around 145 k consistently. We have to remember that he is coming back from an operation.
