However, each of the players I mentioned have some weak areas and you never know who all will click and who not unless you give them a long rope. I'm not sure Jiwanjot is ODI material. In fact, you don't even know how good he is unless he plays another season.

Rahane, Pujara, Kohli are 3 sure places for me right now. Others all up for grabs.

rkt.india Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Kohli has dark days ahead Selectors need to identify a core group of at least 6 young batsmen and persist with them in ODIs, keep them in the mix. Oldies should be out. They can still persist with GG and Yuvraj if only they are in form as you need some experience too and you cannot play all newbies at the same time. Though GG-Viru should be out from England ODIs. Rahane, Pujara/Rohit should open.
Clarke Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Kohli has dark days ahead Will make him stronger/better for the future.
NareshK Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Gautam Gambhir's problem is not form. His technique is not good enough and he has been found out by good bowling attacks over the last couple of years. On flat pitches in ODIs where bowlers become completely ineffective, he managed to string some scores together. But for some reason, he and Sehwag are like gods to Indian selectors and are undroppable.
Cevno Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 There's no reason he shouldn't be in the ODI squad. His list A record is awesome, he has done well on India A tours and then he was also terrific for India U19 in ODI's and the star at the World Cup in tough conditions. Easily makes the Indian team right now, unless you want a team catered too 400 plays 400 pitches. Would be a good opening option as well with current openers failing.
King Tendulkar Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 He is not an option. He is a must for this side. This
Lord Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 This are u convinced?I think u were doubting his ODI potential?:--D
King Tendulkar Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 are u convinced?I think u were doubting his ODI potential?:--D Things change and evolve. I dont think I was a massive anti pujara against odis. This series against england showed he is about our best batsman. A good solid opener who bats long is a desperate need in odis. He also showed a wide variety of strokes. He can adapt to odis no probs, just like cook did. Class test players can always adapt to odis. Vice versa is always dubious Selectors would be insane not to pick him.

vivek_singh3187 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Definitely he's a must for ODI's can anchor the innings like Dravid used to do for us....we already have a plenty of MISFIRING strokeplayers in our squad.....a steady grafter is must required at no. 3 who can hold the wickets from one end.
Manny_Pacquiao Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Class test players can always adapt to odis. Vice versa is always dubious Selectors would be insane not to pick him. spot on. pujara was a run machine in the domestic ODIs, he was batting on and on without getting out. good batsmen (read: test match batsmen) can score in almost any format. the solution for fixing india's ODI batting lineup is so simple, i wonder if the selectors will figure it out. 1. make kohli open. he is obviously india's best batsman, and the best batsman should face as many overs as possible. let kohli play the tendulkar role up top, batting through the innings and facing the best bowlers so india gets off to a good start. 2. bring rahane in. another quality batsman that shows a lot of good form. he is good at hitting the ball through the air and could take advantage of the field settings early on and in the powerplays. also knows how to play long innings. kohli opening with rahane gives us a solid partnership up top. 3. pujara at 3. just a perfect fit for the position. thats the top order sorted. the rest of the batting lineup is fine as it is. you have dhoni in the ideal middle order role, you have raina in his ideal finisher's role, and yuvraj does his usual thing at number 4. when irfan comes back, we have number 7 taken care of. thats the batting lineup of the future. kohli rahane pujara yuvraj dhoni raina
Silva Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 When india loose two quick early wickets theirs no batsman that can come in and just calm things down. Kohli played this role and even though he didn't get runs he was involved in key partnerships in the world cup. Pujara could probably play this role even better than kohli. The problem with this ODI batting line up without tendulkar is that theirs too many finishers and not enough genuine top order batsman that can set things up. jadeja should not play when raina and yuvi are in the line up. Not sure what use he is as a limited overs batsman.

Puj has more experience opening than Kohli

cowboysfan Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I dont want either Gambhir and Viru in the ODIs,they are not part of the future.Pujara should be tried at opener and it wont be much of a problem for him.
